Almost there. But as she neared the exit, a large shadow emerged from behind a stack of old wooden crates blocking her path. A man stepped out of the darkness with unnerving calmness, as if he had been waiting for her there all along. Claire stopped so suddenly she nearly stumbled. Her eyes went wide as she recognized the figure standing before her. "Arthur?" Her voice came out hoarse, barely audible.

“I know the way you flinch when people say your name like it’s a curse. I know your shadows try to protect you even when you pretend you don’t need them.” Her stomach twisted in a way that made her breath hitch. The shadows along her spine coiled tighter, whispering in a language only she could hear—warnings, affirmations, something that felt like longing and danger all at once. “And I know you’re lying when you say you don’t want me around.”

Above, the blue sky is hidden by plumes of smoke. Coughing, I begin to search until my eyes come to rest on Amya, who is slowly standing up and brushing dirt off her bare skin. "These ass holes have done a number," she growled, taking in the wall of creatures that stood a few feet away. "But they’ve fucked with the wrong one." Letting out a snarl, she surged forward, ready to attack. "You aren’t having all the fun without me!" Remembering that I could have anything I wanted here, I manifested five daggers. that sat between my knuckles.

Anna remained perched on the stone altar, the white shroud clinging to her skin, but her gaze was fixed on the space between the boiling iron pot and the old woman. Standing there was a shadow that didn't belong to the dead or the living. It was a young woman, translucent and radiant, her hair the color of midnight and her eyes the same electric blue that had defined Anna’s life. She looked so much like Elara, but the age was wrong,she was a snapshot of a girl who had never been allowed to grow old. The shadow girl pointed a delicate finger at the Crone, then at herself, and finally at Anna.

The ones who had sold their loyalty to whichever side paid more. Amy ducked behind a marble column, reloading. One of her men was already down, the other was screaming. A bullet grazed her thigh, she stumbled. Another smashed into her shoulder. The outfit slowed it, but the force knocked her back. Blood in her mouth, smoke in her lungs. She heard her name once and then — silence, she collapsed.

I said with a stern voice and saw her stand up straighter and her eyes cast downwards. ‘That’s right pup, show me some respect.’ I gloated internally. Shadow simply shook her head in amusement at my petty victory. “Good evening Alpha.” She greeted timidly while my eyes fell to the cup of coffee in her hands. If there was one thing I had learnt about Amy in all the years I slaved for her, it was that she never and I mean never drank coffee. In fact, she never failed to express her disgust for the beverage saying how bad it was for the skin.

She has gotten worse, and she won't let us out of her sight. I see Sasha sneaking into the forest to meet Jacob; she thinks nobody knows what she is doing; nudging Amy, I say, “Check out who Sasha is with now.” Turning and looking in their direction, Amy shudders, “That's gross; he is so sleazy; please don't ever leave me alone with him.” I laugh, promising her I won't. We take our bags upstairs; looking out my window, I see Diana in the garden. “Let's see what Diana has planned for tonight” Amy follows me outside,

Shadow, his face pale with fear, backed away, his eyes wide with terror. "You cannot defeat me,” he hissed, his voice trembling. "I am the Shadow, the bringer of darkness. No one can stand against me." But Amelia was no longer afraid. She had faced her fears, embraced her destiny, and now she was ready to fight for what she believed in. "We will see about that," she said, her voice filled with a newfound confidence. The energy around her surged forward, a wave of pure power that slammed into Shadow. He was thrown back, crashing into the wall, his weapon clattering to the floor.
