Shadow, his face pale with fear, backed away, his eyes wide with terror. "You cannot defeat me,” he hissed, his voice trembling. "I am the Shadow, the bringer of darkness. No one can stand against me." But Amelia was no longer afraid. She had faced her fears, embraced her destiny, and now she was ready to fight for what she believed in. "We will see about that," she said, her voice filled with a newfound confidence. The energy around her surged forward, a wave of pure power that slammed into Shadow. He was thrown back, crashing into the wall, his weapon clattering to the floor.

Her own flushed cheeks and puffy eyes tell me that she’s just as worried as I am. I look up and see Amy clearing the blockade of furniture from the door. “Come on! We can fight. If they are coming here, we are outnumbered sitting in this room. Yaya, can you cloak us too? Make us invisible!” Amy says firmly. I’ve never seen her take charge like this before. “It would be pointless. They are cloaked, so they can see anything, or anyone, that’s also cloaked,” Yaya huffs, picking her fingers nervously. I grab her hand to stop her.

Over lunch, Amy asked the Blotters a lot of questions about their plane or dimension, and how they perceived the world of the living. With two TTS and two speaking apps, the conversation with them flowed better than ever. I left her chattering with the Blotters at the table to clean the kitchen. I was just about to finish when we heard a thud from the basement. Amy turned to me, suddenly apprehensive. “That’s the shadow,” I said, nodding. “It surely sensed you. Ryan shouted, stepping into the path of the assault, his energy colliding with the creature’s, sparks and shadows twisting and clashing in the mist. Amelia, desperate to protect them both, stretched out her hands. The Shadows, responding to her bloodline, swirled around her like a living storm, forming barriers and striking at the advancing creature. She realized with a jolt that she could direct them not just command them, but guide them, shape them into tools for defense.
