I moved away and decided to go through the files I'd taken. I saw lists of supernatural species to be hunted. He could never get enough of the game like he'd called it. Hunting our kind, hunting every kind of supernatural beings brought him pleasure. They were all pawns in his sick games. I hoped and prayed he had the answers I'd seek.

I was even able to get one of them to press against my hands for a few seconds before wandering away. “So, what is this plan of yours?” Dr. Martin asked. “What would you like me to do?” “That’s more like it.” Aunt Nancy said. “Right now, this whole thing falls on Dominic accessing his wolf abilities on this blood moon.” “That’s next month on the eighteenth.”

She ran to a corner when the man tried to embrace her. "No!"She screamed as she stepped behind, whimpering. "Are you the shadow that has been stalking me for years, and you have finally succeeded in kidnapping me, huh?" She asked in a shaky voice, her index finger pointing towards the figure. Long before she was taken by Alpha Rasmore into captivity, a shadow had been stalking her. At first she thought that maybe it was associated with her stepsister Karen Milburn since she liked framing her, but as quickly as the shadow had appeared, it vanished and she never got to see it again.

“I’m just glad we haven’t been giving the new ones any wolfsbane. Who knows? Maybe they’ll learn to control it on their own.” Gray nods and offers Bo a wide grin. “Maybe. They’ll be a hell of a lot better than us if they do.” We all know the truth though. Lycanthropy is a curse. There is no way to control it. Not on the full moon. “Come,” Bo says, knocking me out of the dooming thought of our near future. He puts a hand on my back, lightly guiding me to start walking. “Alazaer is down by twin hills, waiting for the others to come back,” he tells us.

She felt calm and safe. Even at the sight of blood and ice, Chloe didn't feel afraid, not even when the shadows finally reached her and curled upwards to brush against her hand like the welcoming nuzzle from a dog. The feeling of thick fur brushed momentarily against Chloe's fingertips before she felt like she was being shepherded forward, further into the winter wasteland. It felt like she had been alone forever. Well, not *alone* because the shadows kept her company as they followed her, dancing around her bare feet as she walked through the snow. That’s how territory shifts begin. “But you see, they never get away with it. Ours is the oldest strongest and coven in this land. No one kills here and gets away with it. “So I ask again: who sent you? When do they plan to invade?” Territory? Invasions? Caitlin couldn’t understand how she was not dreaming. He moved with me, keeping his arm around my waist and trailing the fingers of his other hand around my kneecap. “I’ve been around a long time,” he hummed. “And you aren’t the first hunter I’ve met. Besides,” he added, with a wry smile, “my very existence goes against the laws of nature. It would be… ill-advised of me to doubt the existence of other supernatural beings.” I made a non-committal sound in the back of my throat. He smiled. “Maybe that could be our first hunt together. The ghost of Wiley Manor.” I snorted at that. “Sounds like a terrible name for an equally terrible book.”

I was about to cross a shallow stream when I heard it—a low growl. Not from a human. From something else. I froze mid-step, eyes scanning the trees. Silence. Then another growl louder now, closer. I turned to run, but I didn’t know where to go. My foot slipped into the stream, and suddenly— I felt claws sink into my leg, dragging me back. I screamed. The forest didn’t answer. I yelled again, kicking wildly, Then something struck me hard on the head. Everything went dark.

The angelic music played in the speakers around the pack. The torches were lit along the streets and the moon shone brightly in the center of the sky. A shadow was cast over the edge as the blood moon began to form and once it was fully merged it would be time, and later on when the the blood moon begun to pull from its form the horn would blow- indicating that the Hunt had begun. “Are you nervous?” My little sister, Mathilda, asked me. “Hazel isn’t nervous, sweetheart, this is an honor. One that you too might experience in a few years if you’re lucky.” I shifted on the bed and suppressed the growing anger towards my mother.
