"An escape," he said quietly. "Yes." We sat in silence for a moment, the club pulsing around us like a living thing. Then Declan stood, extending his hand. "Dance with me."

But tonight they were silent, watching, waiting. For a moment, I thought I felt something stir inside my chest. A flicker. A heartbeat that didn't belong to me. I pressed my hand to my ribs, confused by the sensation. But it faded as quickly as it had come, leaving only the cold emptiness that had become my constant companion. The Shadow Council stood on a raised platform at the far end of the hall. Lady Nyx held a crown in her hands, not gold or silver, but something that looked like crystallized darkness. It caught no light because it was made from the absence of light itself.

I felt the ambient heat of his massive frame, his hand coming to rest heavily and protectively on my hip. "He took the bait," Marco said, his voice a low, gravelly hum that completely shattered the morning's peace. He walked to the island and slid the tablet across the cool marble toward us. I looked down. The screen was illuminated with the stark, glaring homepage of the city’s most notorious tabloid—the same publication that had originally hired Adrian Cross to tear Elysium apart. The headline was written in massive, screaming block letters: HOUSE OF SHADOWS: ESCAPED INSIDER REVEALS ABUSE AND COERCION AT ELITE UNDERGROUND CLUB.

**The Shadows Den...** The Shadows, an enigmatic group that thrived in the deepest recesses of the underworld, were far more than just a syndicate—they were legends, whispered about in fear and awe. Their origin was shrouded in darkness, and the truth about who they were remained a secret known only to the four of them. Two men and two women, united by a shared history of pain, vengeance, and an unquenchable thirst for power.

It just sounded like he was neutral. "That's what we thought until Benjamin Moore showed up. Should I remind you he's almost as invincible as Pierce? He single-handedly built The Shadows after breaking away from Pierce and look at where it stands today." She scoffed and grabbed her lenses. The Shadows was listed as one of the organizations which should be feared greatly by everyone. Its rank was almost the same with the Dragon Conglomerate and the Dragon's Conglomerate. "Well, if she really does betray Queenie then we can wait for orders to kill her, right?" Liam shrugged and Jessica nodded.

The three members of dark-shadows all have long black hairs that reached up to their backs which they left flowing. Their body is one built like a strong tower and they leave their chest bare while their trousers hung just below their waist. Dark shadows are known for fornication and they never really have anything good to do since the split of the covens. Their coven is like a brothel. But despite it, they are still one of the strongest covens and that is because of their special ability of not been seen when they don’t want to.

Shadow nodded, wiped his nose against the back of his wrist, and went to the fridge in search of a beer. Something was not right, Raven agreed with Shadow’s assessment. It was Friday, five o’clock. Sex club night. It should be a time for sexy making, not Shadow crying in the kitchen. Was it that Gregory Holmsworth was kicking off, or what? He opened the bedroom door.

I shouldn't believe a word that comes out of their mouth. "Adrian is not a liar! You people are all monsters! You want to turn him into the monster? No, I wouldn't believe a word you say!" I shook my head vehemently as I yelled at them. Leo clapped his hand dramatically, then looked at me, "He's really gotten you good, hunh? Have you ever asked him to show you the tattoo he has as a member of the Shadows? All their members have it ..I guess no, he hasn't because he was never part of them. WE ARE THE SHADOWS." He yanked his shirt up and a huge black skull tattoo on the side of his ribcage was revealed. The others showed theirs too.

I announce then without further ado, walk out of the office. I get in my black Mercedes and drive around the city aimlessly, before deciding to go to Walford, to meet the Shadow Warriors. It’s an hour away from here, and I use this time to think about Alex’s offer. It makes sense to get them to manage the club, they know the area and they can deal with guys that don’t like to follow the rules. I pull up in front of the clubhouse, slightly surprised about the gates being open, then get out of the car, heading straight to the entrance. There are a few guys outside, but they don’t say anything, just glare at me as I walk in.

THE CLUB POV: Nikolai Scott's club was called Meridian. It did not advertise. It did not have a sign outside, just a black door on a narrow street in the oldest part of Sky Shade City with a brass handle worn smooth from decades of the right hands pulling it. The kind of place that existed in the negative space of the city's social life. Everyone who needed to know about it knew. Everyone else walked past it every day without seeing it.
