Too deep for two people who had met hours ago and still had not decided whether stabbing was off the table. Cassian nodded once. No argument. No apology dressed as explanation. Just a small, controlled nod. That made it harder to stay angry. Annoying man. He turned toward the Hollow. “This way.” We walked. Black Hollow swallowed us slowly. The trees grew so close together that the carts barely fit between them. The blue torches cast strange shadows across the snow, stretching faces long and thin, making every person look haunted. Branches scraped overhead, though there was no wind. Sometimes the bark groaned softly, as if the trees were shifting their weight to get a better look at us.

The kind of silence that pressed against my skull until my own heartbeat sounded like a war drum. I hadn’t slept. Not truly. I called out, I walked out into the shadows, I still could not go to the little pool, there was a hint of light yet. She jumped, turning to look at me, her face instantly turning red. I smirked, I wanted to go to her, she was in the shade, and I could, but I need her to come to me. She glanced up, “It’s not dark yet.” “I couldn’t wait,” I replied. “Trees offer good shade.” There has been times when I’m tracked targets, and needed to hide from the sun. Forest provided good coverage. Her breathing paused. “You really didn’t want to see me again?”

The last page is stained and unreadable Evelyn investigates the forest where the river bends—locals call it “The Hollow.” Inside the willow grove, she discovers ancient symbols carved into bark and bones buried beneath moss. An old woman named Maeve warns her: “The river doesn't forget. Neither should you.” Evelyn begins to dream of drowning.

The closer we got the more I could feel the darkness seeping from the book. 'That's the shadow book. Our contracts can be found in that book. They can be made and broken through that book. Make sure no one ever finds it here. They'll want to take it.' Shade informed me. I stepped closer, really curious now. I laid my hand over the glass, peering down at the book and reading the Latin words umbra. The book opened beneath the glass when I spoke the word. It flipped to a page with Shade's name on it. There was a tiny baby handprint in blood…my blood, my baby hand.

The rest of the busy room always seemed to blur into static whenever he looked at me that way. Dangerous. Very dangerous. Harmony suddenly gasped, her fingers tightening violently around her books. "Oh my God." I shifted my stance away from her. "What now?" She pointed a rigid finger toward the heavy book still sitting on the shelf between us. "The creepy history book." I followed her gesture, my pulse quickening slightly as I read the faded gold lettering on the spine: The Founding Families of Black Hollow. Right. The entire reason I had wandered over to this dusty section in the first place.

“Good book?” Vincent wrapped a hand around his wife’s foot, flopping lazily in the air. Laid on her stomach, chin in her fist, she hardly seemed pregnant. Though Vincent knew better. She had a smell about her, certainly something he’d conjured on his own. A sweet smell. Her hormones mixing with his. Her breasts bulging from her shirt. Skin soft and sticky much the same way well-rested dough was. “Alias Grace. Ironic, I know.” Blue closed the book. Peered over her shoulder. Kicked against his hand playfully.

Alyssa exclaimed after seeing all the things on a particular page. "What Is it, Alyssa?" Asked Berk worried. "Don't worry Berk everything is going to be fine, let's go," replied Alyssa as she keeps the book on the floor. "Are we done?" Berk asked surprised. "Yes we are," Alyssa replied and they both left the room. As soon as they turned and left the room, the book closes back by itself, and the book cover reads; 'THE BOOK OF SHADOWS' and then the book disappears. . .
