“As a matter of fact, I'm glad you're early. I have something here I think you'll find quite interesting. Pull your chair up close.” Leesa lifted the old cushioned chair she'd sat on the last time she was here and set it in front of the desk, next to the professor's. Sitting down, she was astonished to see what looked to be a very real skull resting on a velvet cloth in the middle of the desk. The skull glowed a dull yellow in the candlelight, like a leftover Halloween decoration. “Is that thing real?” she asked. “Oh, yes. Very real. And very special. I call him Yorick.” He chuckled, looking embarrassed. “A poor joke, I know.”

He stared intently at the bed through rose-tinted spectacles. "Give him up Protelia," she said softly. A mournful moan filled the room. Motions started up in the bed as it began to slowly expand and contract. An aperture opened in the side of the mattress and the bed gave a loud sigh as it excreted a jumble of human bones onto the black carpet. The fat man picked up a skull covered with patches of sticky black ichor. He stared thoughtfully into the empty eye sockets. A hand pushed out from the bed and, for a brief moment, reached longingly for the skull, before melting back into the glossy black mattress.

I grab my aluminium water bottle and start gulping while staring at the skull. “Do you want to see your boy?” it whispers without any bones moving. It’s as though it’s speaking directly into my brain. My limbs and fingers weaken, and I drop the bottle. It clatters against the stone. “What did you say?” I’m asking the skull, pretty sure I’m going to have to see a therapist.
