Before he could fire, Ronan was on him, pinning him to the wall. The man slumped, lifeless, as Ronan turned to me, his blue eyes blazing.

My stomach dropped. "What?" He nodded. "I hired investigators to find you after you dared to run from me that morning. It took them a week to find you." Something was slamming hard against my rib cage in a really violent way. I knew what it was. My heart. "I found out who you were—Matteo Leone, a twenty three year old bisexual man, living in your father's house like a prisoner." He leaned forward slightly. "I learned everything about you—your urm... useless family, and your situation within hours of funding you."

The Hunter shrieked, its humanoid form flickering, core unstable, energy surging unpredictably. We pressed forward, every strike coordinated, every movement a dance of survival and fury. My wolf surged, claws ripping, teeth sinking, energy spiraling outward in a living weapon. The Hunter’s core pulsed violently, splitting into multiple fragments, each one more powerful than before. It’s adapting faster than we can fight! Azrael shouted. We focused on the largest fragment, the core. Energy surged, claws striking, bond flaring. Each hit caused sparks to erupt, sending debris flying. The forest trembled under the sheer force.

The scream the death wolf was letting out became muffled. Xyler grabbed ahold of the trachea and viciously moved his head side to side and ripped it out. A gaping hole left open in the death wolf’s throat. Xyler still held it in his mouth. A waterfall of blood poured down onto Xyler. His white fur instantly turned bright red. The death wolf collapsed on top of him, his eyes and expression were shocked. His face froze like this as he died.

The battlefield changed immediately. The shadows exploded outward. Not Elias' shadows. Not corrupted shadows. Hunter's shadows. Controlled. Sharp. Precise. Deadly. The darkness spread across the battlefield like a living storm. One mutant disappeared. Then another. Then ten more. The creatures barely had time to react. The shadows swallowed them whole. When they emerged— Nothing remained. Not even bodies. Hunter walked forward calmly. Like he wasn't committing absolute devastation. Like he wasn't terrifying. Like he wasn't becoming one of the most dangerous beings I had ever met.

Although they affirmed me his demise, me and my wolf still couldn't believe it. Hunter is known for his outstanding fighting skills as well as his ability as a warrior who surpassed many in the whole of the United States. Who, or what, living creature could possibly do this? To end the most skilled warrior as Hunter, someone who had never been defeated, and never been placed in his demise, until not long ago when he died in my territory.
