Now standing near her, as she seems did not notice that he was gone for a while, he reaches his hand towards her giving her the mask. “You do want to explore right? The Masquerade mask was Harriet's special mask, a white snake mask with one eye hole on the right side. "Actually, this is my mother's mask," said Harriet quietly. She then smiled and held up another mask box. Harriet showed it to Liam who was still furrowing his brows at her previous words and opened the box. Another white mask appeared in their vision. It was a white wolf mask with golden stripes around its eyes. Harriet smiled proudly showing the mask design. It was the one she ordered yesterday, which turned out to be perfect and ready at just the right time. "This is for me?" Liam asked.

The two people that were watching from afar and above the sky clapped their hands in amusement while munching the snack that they brought along. “Today! We will free this monstrosity.” “We will show them!” “Hahahaha.” “Hahaha.” Those two were having fun as the mood below them rose dangerously. Their anger soared to the sky, affecting the air surrounding them. “Are you having fun now?” Another voice interrupted them from behind. A man, wearing a sheep mask and hoodie folded his arms over his chest and stood behind them. His cheekbones were lifted showing that he was smiling deeply at them.

Selena’s POV After seeing what Penelope was holding, my eyes widened, and my heart began to pound faster than the last time I found the mask in the Cabinet in Charles's study. My gut tells me that the mask in Penelope's hand is probably the one I found in Charles's study, but I don't trust Penelope at all, and I have to check to see if she's lying to me. I took a few steps in Penelope's direction to get a closer look at the details of the mask. But I had only taken two steps when Penelope suddenly took several steps backward. She closed her palm and hid the mask in her palm, raising her other hand to cover her belly carefully.

When we finally pulled up to the towering gates of the Claw Bane pack’s house, I took a shaky breath, willing myself to stay calm. Beta Nathan stepped out first, opening the door for us, and I gathered the skirts of my dress as I followed Alpha Rowan onto the wide stone path leading up to the ballroom entrance. It was just as I had always remembered it. Alpha Rowan paused, reaching into his coat pocket, and handed me a delicate, intricate mask. His wounded shoulder throbbed, but his grip on her hand was ironclad. “Stay close,” he breathed. “I won’t let anything happen to you.” The masked figure snarled, lips curling in a twisted smile. “You think this is over? This is just the beginning.” The tension thickened, each breath heavy with unspoken threats. Alessia’s heart pounded, a tempest of adrenaline and desperate hope. Suddenly, the wolf exploded forward, crashing into the masked attacker with bone-shattering force. The two struggled, locked in a deadly dance of teeth and steel.

I try to hide the disappointment in my voice. “It’s okay. She’s trying to find where it starts. Be still. We need to get this mask on you.” When I look at his hand I can see the mask he’s speaking of. He’s bringing it slowly towards my face. It’s as if he can read my mind. I want to fight. I don’t know why but the instinct is there. I close my eyes and lay my head against his shoulder again. I’m completely spent, I have no fight left. All I can do is allow him to put the mask on me.

I wanted to rip the mask off, to let him see the monster and the woman, and to lose myself in the heat of his embrace. But as his fingers moved toward the silk ribbons at the back of my head, a cold splash of reality hit me. I am a murderer, I reminded myself. I am an impostor in a dead girl's palace. He is a man of the South, a man of secrets. If I let him see me—truly see me—I would lose the only armor I had left. The power of my eyes was my greatest weapon, but my mask was my greatest shield. Just as his fingers brushed the knot of the ribbon, I grabbed his wrist. My grip was unnaturally strong, fueled by the desperation of a cornered animal.
