"Can't you wait until he's healed?" Harrison froze. The rebuke caught him completely off guard. From where he stood, Curtis had looked healthy enough to attend three meetings and sign twenty contracts. Now he looked like he needed emergency surgery. The contrast was astonishing. Harrison's eyes fluttered open in utter shock. Slowly, he turned to stare at his boss. At that moment, Curtis opened one eye. A silent understanding passed between them. Curtis subtly shook his head toward the door. The message was clear.

I for sure always dreaded whenever we were given a new name. As long as it keeps them safe... Curtis snickered. "First target, kind of a dick, but man he is so much fun to mess with! Nice jet black hair, piercing eyes and such a snarky smile —the kind you just want to punch till he stops breathing, if you know what I mean. And the girl..." a sadistic grin halted his tracks while his voice shifted into a husky tone. "Brunette. Petite. Gorgeously brown eyes and my, my... such plump lips. Now, lucky for you two, both targets so happen to be in your lilttle family..."

Curtis growled, upon noticing my hesitation. I didn't have much choice now, or did I? “I don't think they're lying,” I answered. “Let's hear what they have to say. Truly, we don't have much time. We have to save Narah.” “I wish to pull his beautiful head out his body,” Curtis countered. “Our hatred for Zander hasn't quite gotten to that extent,” I said, walking up the hill to join them.

SHELBY POV I have been working both jobs for four weeks now, and the pay is excellent. All the tips I make go into my brand new savings account, and I already have $900. Nothing else has changed. Curt still comes in every night to buy beer. He does shoot me a smile every time now, but nothing else. He seems to be getting worse. He hasn't shaved in who knows how long, and he looks tired. So very tired. It breaks my heart to see a guy like him so broken.

"Why are you so obsessed with Oliver now? What's so great about him? We met first. I stayed by your side through it all! "If you don't come to the grave today and explain everything, I'll slit my throat right here. Your baby will grow up without a father!" Curtis was desperate, too. He didn't know what else to do. He had been under online attack for days, breaking down again and again. Oliver was gone now, but Sharon still didn't want to see him. She ignored him over and over, treating him like he did not exist. Curtis had reached a dead end.

“Yeah. Let’s start with your real name.” Curt Williamson opened his eyes to see his reflection staring back at him in the ceiling mirror. The blue satin sheet covered half his naked body. The sun was up, shining through the closed blinds. He raised his head slightly. It was quiet in the room, and he saw no one. She was gone. Ginger Curt laid his head back down in the sea of round, blue pillows. He’s been with sexy and wild women before, but . . . her. She had to have been the best lay he had ever had – and he didn’t get her phone number.

I should have just shut up already. Curtis cleared his throat. “Right. Of course.” He glanced towards the direction Lisa had gone. He shook his head. "Man, it's pretty clear you haven't exactly moved on." Mara gave him a sharp look, but it was too late. I said nothing, but I felt like I had been punched. Curtis kept going, trying to fill the silence. “I mean, it kinda looked like you hadn't…” he caught Mara's look. I tried to switch gears and talk about the project.

"She doesn't just walk down that road in the middle of a downpour to have tea with Mira. Not after the ridge. Not after what happened at the northern sector." Curtis took his hands off the table and leaned back in his chair, the wood giving a sharp creak that seemed to linger in the corners of the room. He reached into his vest pocket, pulled out a small piece of twine, and began tying a knot into the center of it, his thumbs working the coarse hemp over and over. "People go home when they run out of places to go," Curtis said.

"If death is the price, we've lived enough, Curt." Curt shrugged "Speak for yourself, son, I plan to live a very long and pleasurable life, enjoying all of earth's goodness." Smiling mischievously, he pointed down to a woman shaking her hips to the beat of the music. "Speaking of one of earth's goodness. It was a pleasure, Aiden. The next time I see you, I hope it's in peace." And then he jumped down, moving like a sleek predator on the prowl to hunt his unsuspecting target. Scanning the crowd, my eyes collided with hazel ones. Eyes that I saw even in the rare moments of sleep.

Seeing Phoebe's tear-streaked face, his heart tightened, a sharp pain spreading through his chest. Quickly, he stripped off his jacket and wrapped it around her trembling body. "Thank you," she sobbed, her eyes vacant and lost. "Phoebe, it's over now. I'm here," he whispered, cradling her in his arms. His slender fingers gently stroked her pale, fragile face, soothing her as best he could. His fists clenched tightly. Damn Alexander—what had he done to her? Curtis lifted her in his arms, intending to leave quickly. But just then, a group of men with guns burst into the room, their weapons aimed squarely at Curtis.
