I crawled out from under Vyn’s body, removing my shirt in the process to put pressure on the gunshot wound on her neck. Her eyes were glazed over and she had lost power in her arm to do it herself.
“It’s okay, Shirley.” I didn’t know if I was comforting her or myself. “You’ll be alright, I promise.”
She smiled and closed her eyes. “It’s o-ver f-or me. Hi-s na-me isn’t Kurtis.”
“You already said that, Shirley,” I said patiently, holding back tears when my shirt got soaked with her blood. “What’s his name? Help me catch this bastard, please. Give me anything.”
