I loved working here. We started, by playing games and then watching a movie followed by our lunch break. The last one was the storytelling. I was telling them a story about the little red riding hood, where the wolf falls in love with a girl and ends up dying. Although the ending was not for children, I had to do something about it.

Channy inhaled deeply after applying a bold red lipstick to her lips. She looked at herself in the full-length mirror in her bedroom. She wore a knee-length red skater dress with her natural black and wavy hair loose. "This is the last time, Channy. This is the last time." She murmured to herself. Channy didn't know how long she merely stared at herself in the mirror, thinking about her plan for tonight, which brought tears to her eyes. She immediately closed her eyes and relaxed. She made a vow to herself that she would never cry again. She will no longer waste her tears on someone incapable of fighting and standing up for her.

The drumbeat grew quieter. One by one, they stood. Some were angry, some broken, some weeping openly. Each story stitched together a tapestry of loss, betrayal, and unimaginable resilience. And then, somehow, laughter crept in. A young boy—barely ten—told of stealing a rogue elder’s boots and hiding them in a tree for three days. Another shared a drunken misadventure that left him howling at a bear, convinced it was his long-lost cousin. Laughter cracked the night open like thunder, and for a moment, it was easy to forget the weight they carried.

“And I just… write things sometimes… stupid stories…” “Stupid stories?” She nodded. “Silly things.” I tipped my head. “That’s what they are, are they? Silly things?” Another nod, and I raised an eyebrow. “Well, that really is a shame considering I’ve just abandoned my family Christmas to drive back across the country on the back of these silly stories.” She couldn’t gulp a breath quick enough. “I made the cat up,” I continued. “A silly story of my own under the circumstances, so I think that puts us on a par with the falsities, don’t you?”

Her cuteness made his smile returned and he went to help the old lady preparing the next order. In front of the parlor, the crowds clapped their hands and laughed. They were very entertained Jai’s story about the orphanage children in the mausoleum. Not only that, he also told them a fairy tale from his previous world, the one with the glass shoes and fairy godmother, and everyone seemed very interested. Of course, he told these stories while showing them a bit of his sparks in certain anecdotes. This was to surprise them and get their interest to stay, and they were, they did.

CHAPTER 1 I should’ve known better than to tease him. The moment I felt the chain of cool metal slap around my throat, I realised I had pushed him way too far. A few moments ago I was stepping out of the fancy hotel lobby into the night air, pretending to giggle at some man’s awful joke just to watch Adrian’s jaw clench across the room. After dinner, everyone settle at the sofa and exchange gifts. They sip warm chocolate once more as each one shares their story about Christmas. Caspian and Bran enjoy listening to these stories of the holiday most especially about Santa and his elves. Later in the evening, the parents of Jo excuse themselves to leave but as usual, Jo stays behind.
