I twist her arm, and she drops her sword. “No!” the man shouts. “Don’t kill her.” I pause. My heart’s hammering, and I don’t know what to do. I’m not a killer. I don’t want to be a killer.

Everyone here knows how to use a gun and use it well, without leftover trauma. You can just sit in the car while we bring you his head.”

“And take your friend with you before I finish what I started.” The urge to kill hasn’t left me. It’s still pounding through my skull, demanding completion. He touched her.
