I'll get back to you by the end of the day. Can you do that?" I know he asked if I was capable of working because my eyes were pooling with tears. "Yes, sir." "Simply Miller." I left without saying another word.

I said and began explaining the steps as I wrote them down. He followed along, nodding in concentration and asking questions. "Do you understand, or should I explain again?" "I understood." "So you're confident that you can solve it, right?" I asked again, and he nodded. "Here, show your work," I said and handed him the pen. I watched quietly as he began solving, explaining every step to me. But a sudden knock on the door distracted us. We both turned to the door, but I motioned for him to keep solving while I went to check who was at the door.

She asked, knowing he does work in it but what kind of work she wanted to know. He rested his arms on his knees, voice calm. (Translation: What do you do in it?) "Kaam." He said simply not over-explaining. (Translation: Work.) "Kaunsa kaam ji?" She tilted her head. (Translation: What work.) A pause. Then he turned the screen slightly toward himself, typing something. A document opened. Numbers. Files. Emails. Everything which she didn't understand but still he chose to show her. He pointed at it. The numbers on the display. She turned and looked carefully where he was pointing his finger at. Trying to understand attentively.

I didn't even have to ask and she stuffed her paper into my hand. "Mr. Dalton might be a sexy face but he is a tough grader. Look at what he gave me on my math test. I got all the answers right but he gave me a C!” I looked at the paper. Olivia was quite good at maths and I was just as stunned as she was to see her C in bold red pen. I scanned it carefully and saw the instructions that Mr. Dalton had given above the test questions. ‘Please show all working.’ Olivia hadn't done any working. At best, there were faint scribbles at the side. I could barely see them.

I say sarcastically once again. "Doubtful." He pushes the paper in front of me. "Now do your work." "What three do you think then?" I ask him, and he ignores me. Fine, then, I'll do my damn work. I take an actual, careful look at the problems in front of me. "Range of Change?" I look over the problems in front of me. "Oh, this is you," I say as I begin to work on the first problem. After I'm done with the first problem, I hand him the paper. He looks over it and nods. "You're correct, keep going." I happily nod and start working on the other problems on the paper in front of me.
