Nico stood there a second longer—still dripping, towel clutched in one hand, burner phone in the other—feeling the absurdity of it all. Wet hair plastered to his forehead, droplets tracing cold paths down his chest and stomach, pooling at his feet on the dark hardwood.
He nodded once—small, grateful—and walked toward the bathroom.
The door clicked shut behind him.
Inside: marble tile, heated floors, a rainfall shower big enough for three, a stack of thick black towels on a heated rack. No mirror fogged this time; the room was warm, welcoming, almost too luxurious after years of cold foster-home showers and public restrooms.
