Under Stairs Nook Novels & Stories

It was a pleasant daydream and one I hoped would become reality soon. Snapping out of it, I continued down the main hall towards the back of the house and came upon the grand spiral staircase. While it was made of white stone, the balustrade had been updated to the same intricate black wrought iron as the outside. Pillars stood on either side of the staircase, making a bolder statement. To the left of the stairs was a small hallway that led to two smaller bedrooms and a bath. I made sure to check every inch of the underside of the stairs and around it, thinking this was a perfect place for a hidden room.

Not the place where I had sat a hundred times fixing lipstick, adjusting lashes, and pretending I was not terrified of wanting too much from my life. “What does beneath mean?” I asked. My voice sounded distant. Brian looked at Luca first. Luca’s head turned slowly. “Answer her.” The words were quiet. Too quiet. Brian looked back at me. “Accelerant residue was found under the dressing room flooring. The initial report suggests it had been placed below the platform section near your station.” My lips parted. Nothing came out. There was a platform under the makeup stations. A slightly raised section where the mirrors were mounted, where the better lighting had been added during the last renovat

The woman downstairs will be the first to suffer. I swallow the last of my water and allow myself a rare grin. It's time for my deviant side to reign. I remove the house keys from my pocket and unlock the door to the cellar. It's an unfinished basement really. Cindy used it for wine and food storage and it's perfect for my needs. The voice below immediately stops. I flip on the small flashlight attached to the keys and walk downstairs. The small, direct stream of light gives the stairs eerie shadows, which I'm sure add a nice dramatic effect as I descend. The squeaky steps do the same.

“The signal say he’s here. He’s moving around too,” “Yeah, Sam suspected there would be an underground basement. We’re still looking into it. Maybe you should stay in the car until we know everything is clear,” Miles doesn’t listen and instead walks ahead, heading for the open door. I followed behind, Indra right next to me. The place lacks any personal touch to it. Only furnished and dust picking up from the lack of obvious hygiene. Miles walks into one of the doors, leading into the tiny dining area. There’s only a rug and one long couch, nothing else. Mile pushed the couch, peeling the rug to see underneath. When he sees nothing, he venture further into the house, taking the small flight

Making my way back down stairs I see movement out the huge windows above the landing that look out over the woods that lead to the pack houses I halt and try my best to hone in on the movements. Shadows dance around in the trees and an uneasy feeling starts to set in the pit of my stomach. Slowly I back my way up the stairs and down the hall past the bathroom, pushing Wrens bedroom door open with a small squeak I back myself into the room and find the small service door that’s used for the laundry and clime inside.

she said reassuringly. The next Morning, Alex's mind raced with curiosity and a hint of trepidation as he followed Nana to the stairway handrail. She twisted the knob, and with a soft click, the floor by the entrance opened up to reveal a hidden staircase leading down into the undergrounds. Alex glanced at Nana, who gave him an encouraging nod before they began their descent.

My shoes made soft crunching sounds on the dusty floor as we walked farther. When we reached the far corner, Jace lowered the flashlight and pointed at the floor. There was a hatch— an old metal door, almost buried under dust and cobwebs. "What is that?" I asked. "A basement," he replied. "No one will think to check down there. It's hidden. And warm enough for us to stay till morning." Kira shook her head swiftly. “Down there? Jace, that looks like it hasn’t been opened in a hundred years.”

With a grunt, I let it go and created a loud thud on the concrete floor. Damn it. Why did I let go? I hope no one hears it. Stairs greeted me. It's heading down in the light-filled space. I swallowed the lump in my throat as I stepped on the stairs but stopped in a second. With a thumping heart and sweaty palms, I held on to the sidings to peek down a little. I saw a queen-sized bed, a bedside table, a pair of couches with a center table, and a door. Another hidden bedroom? Why is this hiding underneath the second floor? As far as I remember, there were no doors under this floor, which was the first floor.

Together they climbed the staircase and opened the door that lay beyond. It was a small sun-filled room that had been made into a reading nook. Outside the window, you could see the entire estate and the road leading to it. It meant that someone reading up here could see anyone who entered or left the estate. There was a small fireplace on one side of the room, two comfy wingback chairs, and a chaise lounge. There was also a desk. She was silent. The reading nook was like a dream. She wanted to curl up on the chaise lounge and behind her exploration of the library down below. She didn’t want to leave this space for days until her book fever wore off if it ever would.

I hadn’t been expecting that, but it turned out to be pretty beneficial for us. The upstairs consisted of three bedrooms, the downstairs a study and living space… though, most interestingly, Zac told me about a secret dungeon area at the very bottom. A space where he apparently kept the majority of his cleaning supplies and… anything else he didn’t want people to find. I wasn’t sure if I wanted to know the exact details of that one. Clarissa, without asking, had forced Noah to move into the study downstairs. He seemed a little annoyed until he looked over at me, probably remembering the night I had found him. After all, as Clarissa had said, he wasn’t even supposed to be here.
