Whatever the reason, there was no turning back now. Suddenly, a sound shattered the silence—a haunting laughter that sent shivers down my spine. It was an unhinged laugh, filled with amusement and a touch of madness. The mere sound of it sent chills coursing through my veins, freezing me in place. The laughter seemed to echo through the room, lingering in the air like a sinister specter.

Even though she is trained, there is something about the growls which is scaring her. It is as if her muscles have gone numb, her brain warped in a twisted fear which cannot be shaken off. Her heart is beating fast, almost bursting out of her chest. “Anna, this is bad,” Thena whispers in her head. “I cannot shift!”

(POV: Lina) A shiver runs down my spine, causing my heart to race. I feel something closing my throat, making my breath heavy and irregular. My fingers grow cold, and my body trembles. I scan my surroundings in desperation, trying to smell who is watching me. But my search is in vain, which makes me even more frightened. "Who's there?" Damn it, my trembling voice betrays my fear. "Who's there? Show yourself! I know someone is there!" I assert loudly, making it clear that I'm aware of being watched.

I know for sure that my stalker has arrived. To my surprise, a shadow appears from the front, approaching me, and each step makes my heart skip a beat. I can feel my skin crawling as the shadow appears closer and closer, revealing its terrifying self. My eyes are widened with fear, astonishment lingering on my face. My lips are turning white, and my face is becoming pale. “You -” I murmur. Feeling like my voice is stuck at the back of my throat, a lump forming there.

The third time, it came in town. Emilia had ventured in for supplies. She wore a hood pulled low, kept her eyes down. People looked at her like a ghost now. Some nodded. Others crossed the street. But when the sound ripped through the sky—clear as bone snapping in the cold—the whole town froze. Dogs yelped. A child screamed. And every single shifter in a ten-mile radius dropped to their knees, clutching their heads like the sound was inside them, under the skin, like it was rewriting them from the marrow outward.

I watched in horror, frozen in place, as The Shadows enveloped Layna, their dark tendrils slicing through her body with ruthless efficiency. They drained her of every last drop of blood, their malevolent presence seeming to revel in her agony. Her screams echoed through the cell, a haunting, soul-shattering sound that left me feeling shattered and guilty. I had never witnessed The Shadows claim a life before, and the brutality of it was staggering.

The shiver was still running down her spine as she walked up to the main door and gripped the doorknob. Samantha took a deep breath as she leaned her forehead against the door. She was breathing hard and closed her eyes, trying to still her heart. This was the first time she felt like she was being stalked by an anonymous being. She knew there was something in that forest earlier that wished to gain her attention. And the invasion on the mind link, it was a werewolf who had been stalking her around.

I squinted my eyes shut, silently praying that I wouldn't make noise as I skipped the first step of the huge ballroom like staircase which always has an unpredictable squeak.
