James lay awake long before the sun rose, staring at the ceiling, his thoughts tangled and heavy. Sarah’s face was everywhere—in the cracks of his memories, in the silence of the room, in the ache sitting stubbornly in his chest. Sleep had barely touched him.
He turned on his side, groaning softly. “God…” he whispered. “Please.”
