"They're going to sink everything!" A missile hit the water fifty feet away, sending a wall of foam over us. When I wiped the water from my eyes, I saw Silas crawling onto the ledge. His face was half-gone, showing the silver skull beneath. He looked like a demon. He didn't go for me. He went for the data drive that had fallen out of my pocket. "If I can't have the girl..." Silas wheezed, his voice sounding like broken glass. "Nobody gets the truth!"

His claws extended, ready to tear apart the next threat. Silas stepped out of the thick fog. His long leather duster dragged in the mud. The milky-white scar over his blind eye gleamed in the dim light. His remaining hunters flanked him, their hunting rifles lowered toward the ground. "Well, that was a mess." Silas kicked Griggs's dead body with the toe of his steel-capped boot. He looked up at the two fugitives, offering a crooked, scarred smile. "You kids okay?”
