It was not long before she was at her favorite bookstore. Entering the quaint bookstore on the corner, Kayla breathed in the familiar scent of paper and ink. The shelves were lined with rows upon rows of books, their colorful spines beckoning to her like old friends. She meandered through the aisles, trailing her fingers along the bindings, searching for the perfect escape from reality.

“Quiet doesn’t mean unbothered. Just good at hiding it.” We fell into silence. The only sound was distant thunder rumbling above ground. I wondered how long we’d be down here. Minutes stretched. She dressed me once again in a diaper making me frown, I don’t need one, but the bathroom was out of order, I pouted when she had me dressed in a new clean skirt and dry high socks. “I have to go back in” I tell her, I can’t leave before the shipment is fully sorted. “How far do you have left?” she asks. “Uhh…an hour but I have to finish sorting the new books” I tell her looking down at my lap. “Come on baby I can help you” she says, holding my hand and walking back inside the store, she did as she said and helped sort the rest of the books.

I noticed that there was a letter on my desk which probably meant it was the party invitation Mae mentioned to me. “I wouldn’t be so bored if the book you read wasn’t so dull. Why do you have so many learning books? Get some actually fun books. It feels like you are more of a fifty years old than a thirteen-year-old with how much you enjoy reading boring books.” I felt Sybil put his arm around my shoulder as his face got close to mine. I wasn’t bothered by this as I went to open up the letter.
