Substance. Lying on his bed, dressed in a T-shirt and sweatpants, Simon browsed through various female streamers on his laptop. His gold-rimmed glasses glinted under the reading lamp. One after another, he swiped left, unimpressed. The filters were cranked too high. Most of the women wouldn’t look half as good in real life. At thirty-two, Simon had the air of someone who’d seen too much and learned to be immune to superficial charm.

"It was that bitch Nica who snitched on me." She continued, "She was the only one I told about the hunt on Morticia. She must have told Vincent, her crush. That bitch, I want her dead." "I can’t kill anyone, not with Void's order," Simon muttered, hating that he remained a puppet to a man he had never seen. "Who the hell is Void?" "I don't really know. I reached out and pressed the radio button on the steering wheel. My voice was cold, cutting through the static. "Mason Vale, do you see a ghost in your mirror?" I said coldly into the radio. Those words pierced straight through Mason's last line of composure. His car hesitated for an obvious instant on the straight. Now. I smashed the throttle down. The car tore through the air and pulled alongside him. Ahead was a chain of fast S-curves. Seeing that I was about to pass, a vicious look flashed through Mason's eyes.

He lets out a bloodcurdling wail, rakes his hair above his ears with raspy fingers, and starts clawing at his head and face as his eyes go bloodshot over and all of his skin turns deathly pale. As though trying to peel off a mask or an invisible head covering. Jerking around in a circle and stumbling backward away from thin air. He slaps out at nothing, grabs his head again, and presses palms over his ears. Shaking and stumbling like he’s battling something we can’t see. Something horrifying.

He lowered his head and had his lips on her neck, giving it a light kiss. Jennet shivered badly after hearing his sexy husky voice. The female ghost was a male ghost? But, she could not pry her eyes away as she stared at the reflection in the glass; engraving his beautiful appearance in her mind. "Hu... Hue..." her lips trembled as she muttered the name. Her heart pounded madly. She tried to move but was powerless. "Yes..." the blond spoke softly in her ear and kissed her neck lightly while inhaling her scent. Jennet could not contain the fear anymore and her eyes rolled upward. She collapsed to the floor; losing consciousness.

"You're going to be fine, little brother." Simon's phone rang, interrupting the silence and he stood up to pick it. He answered the call, a frown on his face at seeing that it was an unknown number. "Hello?" "It's Giovanni," the person introduced themself and Simon let out a surprised gasp. "Sir!" he exclaimed. "I—" "Stop panicking," Giovanni told him. "How is your little brother?" The omega rubbed his forehead, sneaking a glance at Mike. "He's still... getting better and I just—"

"I'm just here to keep a promise. I told you the North would always be your sanctuary. Sanctuaries can be portable." I took a step back, my heart starting to race. "Simon, I told you—" "I know what you said," he interrupted. "But I also said the North will always be your sanctuary." He stopped in front of me and held out his hand. The hand that commanded armies was now open, hesitant. "I spent fifteen years searching for a ghost. I spent the last year learning to let you be free. Now... I'm just a man, standing on a coast, wondering if it has room for one more."
