Elise walked down the hallway alone. She was going to the gym armed with her books and school backpack. She wore her white short skirts and white printed, thin, long sleeves and white sneakers. She glanced at her watch she wore on her left wrist and stopped dead when she felt someone coming to her out of the blue before she could turn into a corner. Her heart thumped so hard in her chest when he smiled at her. Then, she saw her brother coming right up behind him.

“I thought you felt something too.” “I didn’t.” His reply was sharp, merciless. I almost gasped aloud. But then Elise’s next words made my blood run cold. “I’m pregnant.” Her voice was steady. The whole corridor dropped into deadly silence. For a heartbeat, even the air seemed to still. Simon’s eyes narrowed, but his face remained cold. “Abort it.” Elise’s face crumpled. “You—how can you say that?!” “I don’t want it,” Simon said with the same detachment he might use to dismiss a patient chart. “Do whatever you need to. But don’t expect me to care.”

“Bianca! Bianca! Pick this phone up now.” Elise almost yelled in frustration as she chewed on her sandwich filled with avocado, lettuce, chicken and tomato. Carl had gone out to attend to business, leaving her and the maid in charge,……….. in the huge house. Elise had taken a shower changed into a purple kimono and silk and fur sandals. Then the maid fixed her a plate of sandwiches and coconut milk infused with cinnamon. She decided to call Bianca and send the text to Bianca. But she had not picked up her phone.

What book?” Emmett asks; trying not to give away he knows. “Pride and Prejudice” Simone excitedly answers; unaware Emmett knows the whole conversation she just had with Drake Spencer. “One of the classics from Jane Austin. Although; I prefer a good action novel. You can’t go wrong with a classic” Emmett teases; making sure she heard the good action novel part.

But then the only thing that she can’t quite figure out or understand is why Kaide didn’t want to show her this book sooner; why did he delay this much to give her a little idea of who she might be? Her thoughts are interrupted by the hard click of the front door. She hears footsteps come into the house, and she wonders if it is Kaide. She closes the book, letting out a sigh of relief when she hears his voice echoing down the halls by the dining area. She is about to call his name out but stops when she hears him talking in hushed tones to someone. But the woman standing in front of Sera wasn’t the sister who used to braid her hair during storms or sneak her notes during finals. This Elise was carved from glass. Unshatterable. Untouchable.
