THE THIRD MATING
Silas says.
I don’t answer.
Mike’s eyes widen. “Ronan… no. You can’t make that jump.”
Silas lunges to grab my arm. “Don’t!”
Too late.
I sprint straight toward the ten-foot gap in the tunnel floor. The boards crack under my feet, dust exploding upward. I push off hard.
The edge breaks under my heel, rocks dropping into the well below. For a split second, there is nothing under me, just a pit lined with rusted spikes, black water, and bones that have been there for decades.
