Astrid jolted awake from her slumber, gasping for air. Sweat dripped down her clothes until they were drenched. Her heart was pounding so hard that her chest hurt like she had been hit repeatedly. Astrid struggled to breathe and opened her mouth wide to take in oxygen. She groped her chest and raised her hand. There was no blood or wounds on her chest. It seemed as if the wound had healed, but the pain and horror she felt were still there.

I slumped against the edge of the hidden compartment, my hand moving instinctively toward my stomach. I looked down again and saw a sharp, jagged piece of the cave material—a shard of obsidian-like rock from the ritual altar—fixed right into my abdomen. It was buried deep, and the dark red stain on my shirt was spreading with terrifying speed. My eyes began to close. It felt like a heavy weight was pulling my eyelids down, and I didn't have the power to fight it. The sounds of the cave—the chanting, the gunfire, Kyril’s roars—all began to fade into a distant hum.

That was this only identity. He heard him laugh. Throwing the very book he was holding to the ground, Mister Vacio shot through it, creating a hole at the middle of the book. It left smoke that was noticable already. Suddenly, Lucas felt an immense pain that was coming from his chest. He coughed out hard, still feeling that pain, as he held onto his chest while kneeling on the ground. He fell and laid on the ground, trying to tone down the pain he was feeling! But no matter what he did, that pain remained hurting his chest like it was lacerated. The pain felt like his chest has a hole, like the hole on Vacio's book.

I stared at him. His bare chest glistened with sweat. His breathing was ragged and uneven. His chest rose and fell in such a manner that I wanted to go tap him immediately. As I moved to see, I froze on seeing something. The shock had rooted my feet to the ground. Chase had a dragon tattoo on the side of his belly. But that was not what caught my attention. I squinted as I saw clearly little holes and dents on his skin and they absolutely had nothing to do with the tattoo.

I kept moving, trying not to think about the pain that throbbed in my chest. As I ran, I noticed something odd. The ground felt different, hollow even. I stopped in my tracks and looked down. There was a small hole in the ground, about the size of a manhole cover. It was covered with leaves and dirt, but I could see something shiny beneath the surface.

I looked at her chest and opened her sweater and palpated it. "Is it hurting? Dalia... nod if it hurts" she was still breathing heavily and then when I pressed on lower side and she nodded. I slightly pulled her top and it has already started turning blue. Shit.... That broken rib is hurting her lung and impinging and bleeding has started. I need to drain it. Fast. "w-what happened to her?" It was unexpectedly Matteo who was on his knees beside me but what shocked me was the look in his eye... fear and pain. Is he serious?

Her fingers slide over smooth, unmarked flesh. The devastation on her face is absolute. Her jaw drops open, but no sound comes out this time. A sudden, sharp pain strikes me directly in the centre of my chest. It feels as if a heavy iron fist has closed around my heart and squeezed until the vessels burst. I drop to my knees, gasping for oxygen, my palms flat against the dirt. A few feet away, Mitchell stumbles, his knees hitting the grass with a heavy thud as he clutches his own ribs.

It was cold. My body was in tremendous agony. I was soaked in a pool of blood. I tried to move, but piercing pain circled through my veins. My heartbeat was wild. I inhaled deeply, trying to get some air, and at this moment, I felt a sharp pain in my chest. Weakly I lifted my head and saw a bleeding hole below my heart.

“I’d love to help, but I have a rib sticking through my side.” He cursed, put the phone down on the bed, and grabbed some scissors. He slowly cut my shirt away from me. Then he started talking to himself again. “Patient has her six and seventh ribs protruding through her skin.” He sniffed near the hole. “She’s also bleeding into her lung.” He turned back to me. “Why aren’t you healing? Do you know if you have ingested wolfsbane?” I heard a soft growl, but my head was pounding, so I just hushed Nix. “No wolfsbane.”

Still, it couldn’t get inside. I breathed heavily, feeling a brief sense of safety inside the hole. I opened my eyes and saw the rough, rocky surface of Stalagtor’s body looming above me. My eyes narrowed as I noticed a crystal core located in the center of its chest, surrounded by its rocky skin. It was well-protected but visible through the cracks in the creature's tough exterior whenever it moved or breathed. This crystal seemed crucial to its survival and its connection to the cave.
