Elara heard the sound of footsteps—heavy, familiar, and frantic. ​“ELARA!” ​Ryker burst into the room, followed by Silas, Orion, and a limping Finn. They were covered in black sludge and battle-worn, but they were alive. ​Ryker skidded to a stop, his eyes wide as he took in the sight of the destroyed altar, the ash on the floor, and his sister standing in the center of it all, her white-hot blade slowly fading back to violet. ​He didn't growl. He didn't bark an order. For the first time, Ryker Thorne looked at his sister with something other than overprotectiveness. He looked at her with reverence.

Exiting the bedroom I’m greeted by the pale man sat at the breakfast table. This is my husband, Niran, and this is Gwen.” She frowned, “Bryan?”
