He opened his eyes and answered, “Come In” His right-hand man Luca came with a file. He said “Boss, you asked me to gather all the information about that person”. Hearing it, Victor said “Did you get it?” Luca handed Victor a file and said “Everything about Adrian Vale.” Victor opened that file and an evil smile appeared on his face. Looking at his smirk, Luca was a little scared and he thought “You shouldn’t cross my boss, and now no one can protect you”. Then Victor murmured “Let’s see how strong you really are, little kitten.”

Slade leaned against his desk, arms folded, watching me with an unreadable expression. “You handled yourself well,” he said quietly. “Stop saying that,” I muttered. He huffed a soft, reluctant sound. “You did.” I wrapped my arms around myself. “Shawn won’t stop.” “No,” Slade agreed. “But neither will I.” I looked at him and saw an ally. A dark, sarcastic, morally questionable ally but an ally nonetheless. “Thank you,” I whispered. He stiffened like the word physically struck him. “Don’t make it weird.”

“I gave you one damn job, to secure our entry into Khalidan, and what do you bring me? Excuses.” His right-hand man, Viktor, shifted uncomfortably. “Boss, Khalidan is locked tighter than ever. The Montero family and Kavanaugh’s security are impenetrable. It's impossible since they both rule Khalidan” Slade let out a cold laugh, running a hand through his jet-black hair. “Impossible? I don’t pay you for ‘impossible,’ Viktor.” His men exchanged wary glances. Slade was known for his ruthlessness, but this was different. This wasn’t about business or power anymore, this was personal.

And despite my training, I didn't like my chances of beating him. "Arent you going to ask me "Why?", come on, I know you're curious". My skin crawled as Slade talked to me in such a teasing way...
