I said quickly, hoping to steer the conversation back to sanity before Amy could sink her claws in further.
“Good, good,” Derek said. Then, with the kind of oblivious enthusiasm that made me want to scream into my coffee mug, he added, “You know, Amy here could probably help you out. She knows everyone in the company.”
I nearly choked. Of course, she knows everyone in the company—she makes it her mission to know everyone so she can weaponize that information later.
Amy beamed, clearly thrilled by the endorsement. “Oh, I’d be happy to help!” she said, clasping her hands together as if she were volunteering at a charity event instead of trying to worm her way into my work.
