A tickle started to form in my nose. No. No. No. Please, not now, I begged silently. I held my breath. Pressed two fingers hard beneath my nose. Willed the sneeze to go away. But the dust under the bed was too strong, too thick. I’d crawled into a forgotten, dusty corner of the world, and now it was trying to betray me. The sneeze came out—tiny, barely a sound. More like a squeaky gasp. But to me, it sounded like an explosion.

I kind of have a problem with germs. “No, I will...” she sneezed, “I just need to rest...” another sneeze.“I will be fine,” she wheezed. I wiped the tears that streamed down my cheeks due to runny nose. [But what's not fine is that, you are sniffing and sneezing.] I heard him sigh. [You are sick, are you not?] "So?" For the first time in my life, I kind of glad for my petite frame that I could fit into this space. The smell of dust wafted into my nostrils, trickling into my nasal passageway and threatening to cause me to sneeze. I took a deep breath and closed my eyes, pinching the bridge of my nose tightly. I keep on repeating a silent mantra on my head—please don’t sneeze, please don’t sneeze, please don’t sneeze. That until the trickling sensation of my nose has subsided, letting me sigh in relief.

And suddenly I sneeze in his face. "Hatciih!" “Laurel!” his scream boomed through the air. Kane immediately backed away and covered his face which had just been blown by the virus from my nose. "My nose is itchy. Why are you standing there?” I rubbed my nose, feeling like sneezing again, and I immediately clasped my hands over my nose. “I should be the one asking you, why are you sleeping on the couch? Aren't you going back to your room?"

She leaned forward to take a nice whiff, smiling to herself—until she suddenly felt the tickle of a sneeze. She turned away quickly and let out a soft “achoo,” trying to keep it as discreet as possible. She rubbed her nose lightly, hoping it would end there, but the tickling sensation returned, stronger this time. Her eyes began to water slightly, and she blinked rapidly to stop the tears from spilling. Her body began to feel hot, uncomfortable, and itchy in certain spots. Trying to remain composed, Rhea focused on calming her breathing just as the waiter arrived with their order.

*** Risha pressed the pillow to her face in a desperate attempt to block the annoying sound and find some sleep, it was around 1am and still she could not sleep. “Uurh!”, she exclaimed in disgust as she heard him sneeze loudly again and again, “when will he stop? He is driving me crazy.” She felt like screaming into the pillow. A few minutes passed without any sound, hoping she had heard the last for the night, she tried to find some sleep. But just as sleep began to take her on its wings, he sneezed again.

“A-choo!” The sneeze was violent, echoing off the marble floors. Her eyes immediately began to prickle, the telltale heat of a flare-up blooming across her cheeks. She sniffled, reaching into her bag for a lace handkerchief, her vision blurring behind a thin veil of involuntary tears.

My eyes widen, my lips parting as I look into his frosty blue eyes, adjusting my glasses. “Brother… I… Achoo!” I sneeze in his face. “Oh, goddess…” I push him away, but he doesn't let me go; instead, he helps me up on my feet. I quickly reach for a tissue paper from my bag hanging around my shoulder and stand on tiptoes to wipe his face, my fingers shaking uncontrollably.

I took the shirt from the hanger and took it down my nose to inhale. All of a sudden, I sneezed. The scent was too strong. Strangely, the scent on Theo's shirt smelled different. It was totally unlike what I always perceived in him. His scent usually gives me this feeling of comfort, but the scent I perceived now was repulsive and made me sneeze. What is happening? Was this a dream as well? I shut my eyes and opened them slowly, yet, I was still standing in front of the closet with Theo's shirt in hand.
