My Enemy, My Mate
It was a cruel joke, a twisted fate, that the goddess had seen fit to pair me with a mate who didn't care for me.
As I wiped away the tears that fell from my eyes, I felt a presence behind me. Elara's footsteps drew me out of my thoughts, and I turned to see her standing in the doorway, two pairs of shoes in hand.
"Which ones, my lady?" she asked, holding up the shoes for me to see. "Pink or white?"
I looked at the shoes indifferently, my heart too heavy to care about something as trivial as footwear. I shrugged, my voice barely above a whisper. "Either one is fine."
