"What? Do you think I'm making this up to scare you?" The warm light from above cast a slanted shadow on the edge of the table. He stared at me, and for once, didn't rush to deny anything. "You broke up with me…because of this?" I almost laughed. "Does it even matter now? Even if I were healthy, I never would have lasted long enough for you to finally turn around and look at me. I overheard your friends talking. Apparently, I wasn't even someone you'd be willing to settle for. I used to think we'd actually make it to the end."

But the threat lingers like smoke. And I know— Lucas Aurelius didn’t come home to reunite with his sons. He came home to control us all. And I might be the first target.

Zara’s POV “Divergence acknowledged.” The words did not echo, they settled into us. Not like the failsafe’s clean digital tone. Not like the lattice triad’s layered harmonic pulses. This voice carried weight. Density. Something tectonic beneath it. The Prime Anomaly hovered above the origin seal, no longer a towering column of compression, but a contained geometric core—faceted planes shifting slowly as if considering new mathematics. The fissure around it had sealed to a thin glowing seam. The highway was cracked but no longer collapsing. The air felt thinner, but stable.

His gaze shifted to Asher, dark and venomous, before landing on me. "This isn't over," he said, his voice low and menacing. "Oh, it is," I replied, my voice cold as ice. "You've lost whatever power you thought you had here, Xaden. Now leave." With one final glare, Xaden turned on his heel and stormed out, slamming the door behind him with enough force to rattle the walls. The sound reverberated through the room, but the silence that followed felt different—lighter, freer. Jared exhaled slowly, his shoulders relaxing slightly as he turned to me. "Are you okay?"

and then, it reversed. The unravelling Prime AIs didn't explode. They were violently pulled back together, not as powerful AIs, but as millions of tiny, harmless, non-sentient data-shards that rained down onto the floor, inert and useless. The Nexus stopped its countdown. The corrupted red lights turned a warm, flawless blue. Scarlett stood up from the console, her cosmic gold eyes fading to a dull, exhausted amber. Firing the ultimate rewrite command had drained her entirely.

She would reach for a tool, and her hand would appear six inches to the left, two seconds before she actually moved it. ​“The Core-Shard is pulsing at 400 Terahertz,” Aris shouted, her voice sounding like it was being played through a broken radio. “It’s not just a battery, Killian! It’s a 'Reality-Anchor' that’s lost its coordinates! It’s trying to 'Re-map' the East into a five-dimensional geometric grid!” ​As they crested the "Ridge of Broken Glass," they saw it.

“That’s right. Keep fighting. You know I don’t mind hurting you. You’re nothing but some dirty whore who can’t even fuck right.” I can’t scream because of his hands. I can’t fight because of his weight. I can’t do anything to stop him. Maybe, just maybe, this time he’ll kill me, and it will be over. No, I can’t let him win. I bite down on his hands hard, and he pulls back. “HELP, HELP. SOMEBODY HELP ME. HELP ME! “SAM, WAKE UP.” Somebody’s shaking me, but I can’t escape.

The same way morning sunlight streamed in through the trees, all broken and golden and almost pretty enough to hide the sharp edges underneath. Almost. “Where is he?” I asked. Marcus said, “At the packhouse. He moved back in once things got bad enough for the medics to need him close.” A pause. “He stopped shifting six weeks ago. His wolf can’t keep up with it anymore.” Those words landed heavy. I knew what it meant up close—bond deterioration so advanced that the wolf side starts slipping away. First shifting hurts. Then it’s nearly impossible. Then it’s gone entirely. There’s nothing fair about it.

Ruby, the voice behind those sounds, stood frozen in shock. "Ahhh!" She shrieked and scrambled toward the TV, desperately trying to shut it off, to silence the mortifying noise. When she realized it was no use, she threw her arms out, shielding the screen with her body. Fear was written all over her face, her voice shaking uncontrollably. "Honey... Let me explain..." I grabbed a chair and sat down with a gesture toward the television. "Do we really need an explanation?" "I..." Ruby's voice faltered, and then tears streamed down her face. "I'm sorry... I messed up, honey...
