Half Blood Shadow
The sounds were muted,the tinkling of herb jars, the distant murmur of hags, the rustle of silk,all of it sounding as if it were happening underwater.
Then she saw her.
"Sophie!" Anna croaked, but the name felt heavy in her mouth.
Thirty feet ahead, Sophie was dancing. She wasn't the broken, shivering girl from the altar. She wore a radiant white dress of gossamer silk that seemed to catch a light that didn't exist in this realm. Her hair, usually pinned back or tangled, cascaded down her back in long, shimmering blonde waves, bouncing with every joyful step. She looked oblivious, happy, and hauntingly beautiful.
