Everything. “We could have – We could have adopted a baby,” I choked out, my eyes tightly shut and my fists clenched beside me. “Don’t be ridiculous,” Jackson said, his tone soft, reminding me of the man he once was – the man I fell in love with. “I’m sorry to inform you like this,” he said. The worst part was how sorry he sounded. I heard the remorse in his voice and felt his sorrow pouring into me through our flimsy mate bond.

My heart drops into my stomach, but Damon quickly acts; he grabs the mic, pulls it to the side, and hands it to Jackson. Jackson smiles faintly and then clears his throat, “A few months ago,” he pauses, “I lost my parents in a terrible car accident,” The crowd goes silent, but Jackson speaks again, “Mikey would come over to our house and bring us pizza. He was the one who gave my sister not only a job but her smile back.” I smile, not being able to help it- it’s true.

I gave a quick clap to get their attention. “Wait, did you forget about me?” Jackson asked from the door. I pursed my lips. “Sorry about that. It totally skipped my mind that I asked you to come. I thought we were already complete,” I replied. He grabbed his chest in fake pain. “How could you forget about me?” he pouted. I slapped my hands together in front of me. “I am sorry.” I smiled. “Forgive me, and please join us.” He smiled. “I forgive you, my great Luna,” he said and sat down.

But I felt disappointed by the fact that their parents were returning. In my dreams, John repeated his warning. "It's over between us, Tonia. You're not our mate. Reign whined. “You can help by ensuring that everything is in place, so those two can start school immediately,” Gracie said, pointing at Amber and Grace-ann. “That’s the last of our boxes. Let’s get going now!” Reign said.
