“I want one thing in the world that’s only ours,” I said. “Not Sorrel, the world gets Sorrel now. Not the wedding, that was his. One small thing nobody else knows about and nobody can take and nobody can put a caption on. Just us.”
I had drawn it myself, on a napkin, while he watched. One small design, simple, split down the middle into two halves. Hers and his. Each half meaningless on its own… a few lines that could be anything, that would mean nothing to anyone who saw it. But set side by side, the two halves made one whole image, and you could only ever read what it was when the two of us stood together.
