A flicker of surprise crossed his face, but it disappeared almost immediately. Zeph spoke with Simon for a few minutes while he worked on the vehicle, then returned to their SUV and opened the trunk to look for spare parts. They really were from the military base, and judging by the officer's rank, he was probably one of the higher-ups. Zeph decided to help. He wasn't expecting any special treatment, but making a good impression couldn't hurt. One of the brake parts had failed. Zeph remembered that he and Nicole had collected plenty of spare auto parts from the car modification club, so he was sure they had what he needed.

I had the sense that it was something soft. What was the last thing I remembered? Try to think. Something having to do with an airplane? Well, that could be almost anything. The company I worked for, Lewis Machine Parts, made airplane parts, propellers and bearings and things like that, for the fighters and bombers that were rolling off countless assembly lines and heading off to Europe and Japan.

Dust filled the air in a thick cloud. “Oh,” she muttered. Mara stepped inside and looked around. “We have work to do.” We spent the next few hours cleaning. I swept the floor while Lydia forced the windows open, letting fresh air push the stale smell out. Mara searched through the cupboards and found an old pot, two cups, and a few cracked plates. “There is barely anything here,” Mara said. “We had less before,” I replied. Lydia smiled. “That’s true.” We laughed softly. For the first time since leaving the old settlement, the sound did not feel forced.

They must rely on the mage portals to receive the parts if they wanted to receive the parts in any decent times. “I don’t know maybe we need to have enough parts on hand and replace them as we use them.” Ebony suggested the obvious. The smile on Jack’s face froze. “Besides Grand Asia, Ares Enterprises can sell their parts to Bell Enterprise and Titus Enterprise. On the other hand, you won’t be able to produce anything without our parts. Who do you think should bow down?” Finn replied, “Old Master Jack, you’re wrong. There are other companies aside from Ares Enterprises who will be willing to provide Grand Asia with these parts.” “Are you talking about Bell Enterprise? You’re not wrong. Bell Enterprise can provide you with an abundance of chips. However, the Ares family has patents over a few parts. Only we provide them.”

Piper said. "When you're done, you can bring the car to one of our retail shops at the address I'll send to you. The employees will check it there, and you'd return the next day for feedback." She said, and after thanking her once more, Piper ended the call, and called the mechanic. The address was sent to her, and she wrote it down. She gathered all the little money she had, and gave it to the man who grumbled at how small it was. That very night, Piper drove it to the address, and saw spare parts out for display, there were also sofas there, and shelves of books.

He pinched my hand and whispered, “Dearest sister, my favorite sister in the whole world, I absolutely love this car.” I laughed under my breath. Some things about him never changed. Back inside, once we sat down to go over pricing, I said, “I’ll take ten. I also want ten sets of core spare parts for each vehicle. Calculate the deposit for me. I’m in a hurry, so I hope you can source them quickly. I’ll pay the balance upon pickup.” Claire’s voice trembled slightly. “Ten… Miss Quinn, are you sure you mean ten?” I smiled and nodded.

I made a show of reaching for a shelf labeled ‘Engine Filters – Compact’. Silas sighed, a soft expulsion of air that barely disturbed the dust motes dancing in the shafts of sunlight cutting through the high windows. “No, Madeleine. My mistake. It all looks so… metallic.” I exaggerated my confusion, trying to catch his eye. He wouldn't look at me directly when he was trying to be stern.
