I said. I could hear the soft crisp laughter from across the phone. "No problem. I'll still tell you anything." An hour later, I had made more lemon crinkle cookies than I expected. Rose, Jasmine and Violet had just gone through a series of nosebleeds almost simultaneously, so I made the cookies to make them feel better. They ate their fill, but there were still two jars left over. Gloria refused to eat more, suggesting I take the rest of the cookies to the packhouse. Well, it wouldn’t hurt to share.

"It's no trouble at all! With the vanilla extract in hand, Hazel finishes making the sugar cookie dough. The three friends roll out the dough and use cookie cutters to make all sorts of shapes - stars, hearts, and even a few gingerbread men. They pop the cookies in the oven and then settle in to chat while they wait for the cookies to bake. Suddenly, there's a knock on the door. "That's odd," Hazel says. "I wasn't expecting anyone else." Mrs. Henderson and Margaret look at each other with curiosity. Hazel opens the door, and her jaw drops.

After the long night we had, I figured I'd let her sleep for another hour or so. I headed down to the kitchen, grabbing a bottle of water and a Tupperware container of Lola's Grandmas cookies. Lola had a strange addiction to anything her Grandma baked, and could eat her cookies by the dozen. Her and Zeke had easily gone through four containers. Their stomach ache lasted for hours, though they both deserved it. "Cookies for breakfast?" Lola asked, her eyebrow raised as the strolled into the kitchen.

Dan smiles, taking another small bite. “Yes, that’s perfect,” Hope encourages him, “Excellent. Keep going, you’re doing great.” Watching Dan return to health with such immediacy is shocking and wonderful simultaneously. Before I can ask what’s happening, Hope sees my baffled expression and explains. “It’s a snickerdoodle cookie with an extra magical kick,” she explains warmly, “It’s my own special blend. It replenishes energy and rebalances power in the body. Think of it as magical Gatorade!”

Fresh-baked?” “Yep,” Spider said. “I made ‘em myself this morning. You want something?” “Sure do,” Mac said. “Maybe a few croissants? And a blueberry muffin and… ummm, let’s see… those white chocolate chip cookies look amazing.” He glanced at Mirrie, remembering how much she loved sweet stuff. “Three of those.”
