He saved me again. "Are you okay?" Brandon asked. "Thank you but I think my heel broke." I said, holding onto his hand. And the spark reappeared in contact with his skin. "Do you want to sit on the bench and take a look at it?" He suggested. "It would be nice." We sat on the bench and I checked my feet. The heel of my left shoe broke. "It really broke." "Do you want to go back to the car?" He said. "Let's sit here for a bit? I hardly get out and can relax like this. And my heel is already broke." I responded. I wanted to sit there for some more.

She then pushed Lucas's shoulder to get up from above her, and after that, Luna tried to get out of bed. "Okay, if you're so sure about your feelings, then we should break up before my feelings for you grow deeper. If we break up now, I can easily forget you and try to rebuild my life from scratch." *Ding* For some reason, Luna's words about breaking up sent a jolt of pain through Lucas's chest, making his heart pound loudly. He fell silent as he pondered over all of Luna's words.

"Can you walk? If we move now, we can find shelter." I tried to put my foot on the ground. A flash of pain forced a small cry out of me. My features twisted. Renzo cursed under his breath. He knelt in front of me and took my ankle in his large, calloused hand. I flinched, wary. "Let me see if it’s broken." His fingers probed the joint with unexpected gentleness. Beads of sweat broke out on my forehead. He finally looked up. "It’s a bad sprain, nothing torn. But it’s going to swell up like a balloon."

Yet, here we were, the breath in our lungs was bittersweet proof of survival.

He looked at me and for the first time since the sky split, I saw uncertainty. “I do not know yet,” he admitted. The second rupture exploded outward. A jagged crack raced across the northern horizon. Light bled into the clouds and a third flicker sparked faintly to the east. Not yet open but stirring. The lattice trembled. Kade’s knees buckled slightly. I caught him before he fell. “You cannot hold twelve,” I said. He looked at the spreading fractures, then back at me. “No,” he said quietly. The first entity forced both arms through the boundary and the second rupture widened rapidly and in the distance, sirens began to wail.

"I sever the bond that ties us together. From this moment on, you mean nothing to me. We are nothing." The bond snapped. It did not fade slowly like I thought it would. It broke all at once, sharp and sudden, like glass shattering on concrete. Pain exploded through my chest and I gasped, unable to breathe. My vision blurred and my knees gave out beneath me. I was falling and there was nothing I could do to stop it.

His ankle was already swelling. She knelt in front of him. Ronan's being was a low, angry growl under his skin. "How bad?" "Not broken. I have broken it before. This is less than that." He paused, his breath hissing through his teeth. "Big sprain." She looked at him. "You felt me coming." "The bond. I felt you wake." "I felt your pain." He stared at her, and for a moment the mad look on his face gave way to something else, a quiet kind of wonder. "I did not think it would carry that clear."

“And it looks like you’re doing that, so…” “You leaving is what hurt me!” I seethe, anger sinking its claws deeper into me at his pathetic justification for his actions. “And I’m not damaged, Callum, I’m broken! You broke me!” My voice cracks, my chest heaving as I shake my head, fresh tears springing to my eyes. My gaze flutters down to the pavement, my voice dropping to barely a whisper. “You broke me in ways that I didn’t even know were possible.” Callum’s throat clicks with a hard swallow, his shoes scuffing against the ground as he steps closer. “Ness…”

He took a deep breath and continued. "I can't take the weight of your love, I just can't. I'm getting lost on you, I feel like you'll be safe in the hands of another. I'm beyond damaged, I'm broken to the core. There are times I've felt maybe I'm not broken, just bent, but now, now I know I'm broken. Despite knowing broken things still work, I also know there's an expiry date. Broken things work till they don't."

“Then start with why the bond is gone, because if you think I’m just going to stand here and accept that, you’re out of your fucking mind.” “I didn’t break it,” he said. That… that didn’t help. My hands clenched, frustration rising again. “Then explain it,” I said, sharper now, my chest tight with something between anger and panic. “Because from where I’m standing, it feels pretty fucking broken.” Eric tilted his head slightly, studying me like that reaction mattered more than the question. “It’s not broken,” he said slowly. “You’ve just been separated from it.” Didn’t feel right, didn’t fit.
