“You’d trade what you have here for… what? The streets? A hole-in-the-wall job where you’re just another nobody? You’d throw away the roof over your head, the protection, the money… me?”
The last word was heavier than the rest, like a weight dropped into water.
Rico’s stomach twisted. “You don’t get to make it about you.”
The Boss stepped closer, until Rico could see the scar under his jaw, the line of tension in his shoulders. “It’s always about me.”
For a moment, Rico thought the Boss might grab him, drag him back toward the compound. Instead, the Boss reached into his coat pocket and pulled out a small object.
