I read until my eyes ached. There was a clear pattern. Every Alpha had chosen a beta from their own bloodline - a brother, a sister, a cousin. If they had no family, they had no beta at all. No Alpha had ever taken a rogue hunter as a beta. Rogue hunters only appeared during Derrick’s reign. Derrick was the first to choose one, Jax, and he did so only in the last three years of his rule. Then Dean followed suit, keeping the same rogue hunter as his beta.

I froze with even more dread on seeing who it was. Rhys. I’d heard stories of him. The Rogue Alpha. The one who was rumored to rule the borderlands with his own law. Ash POV I feel one of his fingers rest on my pelvic bone and all thoughts of doubt fly out the window. I push my hips forward trying to get him to touch me lower. They don't have the strength that comes from the unity of being in a pack. Wolves are social creatures, and their wolves weaken significantly without that bond to an Alpha. Many rogues are on their own for years before they join other rogues, so they weaken a great deal. However, just because these rogues are weaker, they have the upper hand right now. With just four more to go, I can feel my body becoming sluggish. All my energy sources have been depleted in the last five weeks and I'm just running on pure adrenaline at this point.

Just as I was about to unleash a commotion that broke loose in the hallway, Nick barged into the room followed closely by Cat who had her hand on her hips unimpressed by his presence. “Boss, sorry to barge in but we have a problem at the clubhouse”. Nick glared at Cat as she pushed past his shoulder. “Get out the pair of you” she growled. “It's okay Cat, by the sounds of things the Rogues have yet another drama, no doubt it’s because their Alpha is incapable of leading a pack”.
