I shrugged, the motion making my jaw ache.
“He’s not really a father. Not in the way that matters. To him, I’m just an extension of his legacy—a tool to mold into his perfect vision of success.”
“That’s messed up,” Riley said softly, his voice laced with disbelief.
“Yeah, well, welcome to the Steele family,” I said bitterly. “We put the ‘fun’ in dysfunction.”
Riley’s lips twitched, and for a moment, I thought he might smile. Then his expression turned serious again.
