She patted his head like he was her oversized baby, repeating herself when Damian shook his head happily. "What's that?" He lay down, wrapping his arms around her legs. He moved her hand from her belly to his head. "Tell me." 'God, baby, your dad is jealous of you.' As she stroked his hair, she began telling the tale. "It's a children's story. You really don't know it, love? It's about a rabbit who races against a turtle." The book she was holding was a collection of classic fables-popular bedtime stories or early reading practice for preschoolers. The short text, accompanied by bright illustrations, made it easy for kids to enjoy.

she asked, clearly bracing for the worst. “Yes,” I said. “But later. As a treat.” Naomi groaned theatrically. “You lied,” she hissed. “We’ll start with stories,” I said. “Real ones. Some might be scary in parts. Some might be sad. But we’re telling them so you know where you come from. So no one can tell you lies and make you afraid on purpose.” I took a breath. “Who’s heard of the curse?” I asked. Almost every hand went up.

Aria tried to apologize. She had them dressed up in their night clothes and tucked them into bed. “Mama, can you tell us a story…?” Laura coughed. “Yes, baby. Where are your story books… found it.” She stretched her hands toward the night stand. Aria flipped the book open and started reading from it. “A long time ago in the animal kingdom, there was a little lion prince called Simba, whose parents ruled over the forest, but died after the betrayal of his uncle, Mufasa…”

Shayla resisted longer, peppering me with last-minute questions about whether clouds slept and if frogs had birthdays. Lucas waited until the others were settled before speaking quietly. “Can you tell a story?” Something in his tone—hopeful, vulnerable—unlocked a memory deep inside me. “My mother used to tell me stories,” I said softly. “Would you like one of those?” Three heads nodded eagerly. So I began. I told them about the moon that fell in love with the sea but could never touch it, about the brave girl who taught the stars how to sing, about the fox who tricked winter into leaving early.

His lips are still tilted in that wicked little smile. That night, Jabari and Amara refuse to close their eyes on the furs unless my voice tells them a bedtime tale. Even though I have spent five winters putting Zuberi and Tavon to sleep in our villa, I only know the basic old story about the three little forest pigs who built dens to hide from the big rogue wolf. The second I start whispering the words, I see the totally bored, blank stares on both of their little faces. They are way too smart for baby stories.

The storyteller stopped singing and called the children to order. “Which story would you like to hear?” he asked in a playful tone. Many of the children called the names of their favourite animals: the tortoise, dog, lion, and the hen were among the few animals mentioned. In the end, all of them could not agree on a particular animal, and this caused a huge misunderstanding in the gathering. One of the boys stood up and said he wanted to hear a story about the dog. Another, moved by the boy’s courage, stood up and said he wanted to hear a story about the wise tortoise. The first boy got annoyed and was about to slap the other boy when the storyteller intervened and told both of them to sit d

After a few moments, his brown eyes sparkled, indicating he already has a story in mind and was grinning wide. "I want to hear a new story, mama. Do you have a new stowies other than kings, magical crechor or pwinsesses? Like a real, real stowies?" His six-year-old self, speaking adorably making his mother smiled. She started to make a humming sound, looking up and thinking of a story that would be interesting enough for a boy his age. "Well, there is one that I've heard from your grandmother as a child. About a wolf and a witch. Would you like to hear them?"

she blinked. Liam leaned down, kissing her tenderly on the forehead. "I'll tell you a story, and you'll fall asleep soon." Liam swiped the screen while his beautiful eyebrows knitted. "What kind of story would you like?" Gemma slowly closed her eyes. "I'll listen to whatever story you tell." "How about 'The Tortoise and the Hare' or 'Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs'?" "These are too childish," Gemma said with dissatisfaction, quietly opening her eyes.

"There's this story I heard when I was young. I don't remember much but I think that you'll like it." "Let's hear it," I said. "It's a story that's been past down since ancient times. Are you really ready to bear it's weight?" "We are more than ready," Lora said and Ana shrugged, as if washing her hands off whatever consequences that would come afterwards.
