I loved working here. We started, by playing games and then watching a movie followed by our lunch break. The last one was the storytelling. I was telling them a story about the little red riding hood, where the wolf falls in love with a girl and ends up dying. Although the ending was not for children, I had to do something about it.

I told myself I wouldn’t think about it. I was walking across campus with Freckles at my side. She was swinging her bag loosely over her shoulder while I carried mine properly. The sun was bright, students filled the walkways, and the air buzzed with conversations. “I saw the funniest story online this morning,” I was telling her, trying to sound casual. “Some guy tried to cook noodles in his electric kettle, and he ended up burning the whole thing.” Freckles gasped dramatically, her eyes widening. “You’re lying!”

“You are funny.” I narrowed my eyes at her. “I am also traumatized. I almost got eaten by wolves. I fell off a cliff. I ran through ghost trees. I saw dead people walking like they were on a normal stroll. And now I am talking to a naked stranger. So yes. I am funny. It is a coping mechanism.” She laughed. Actually laughed. Which annoyed me. “You think this is funny?” I demanded. “Yes.” “This is not funny. This is the worst day of my life.”

About Corin accidentally dyeing his hair green with an herbal mixture. I didn't want to laugh. But I couldn't help it. The stories were ridiculous. And the way they told them, talking over each other and adding details, made everything funnier. By the end, my sides hurt and tears ran down my face. Good tears, for once. Everyone spoke in an intimate tone and looked warm and happy. The conversation continued with laughter and lighthearted stories. One of Albert's team, Russel by name, is known for his spontaneous jokes, telling stories of funny times when he was new to the legal world. And I can't be less proud of her. The rest of our dinner time is filled with us eating together and my mum and I laughing at Cathy's hilarious jokes and stories, particularly at the story she told us of how she had to throw bagel bread at an annoying colleague of hers so that she can grab his attention to work. I really tried so hard not to picture the scenerio in my head, but I just could not stop myself from laughing at the imagination. Thank God I had already swallowed my food before then.

She started laughing out loud, as if it was the funniest thing she had heard on a rain-drenched, starving afternoon. “See, how infectious our madness is. No one can escape it. But…okay…listen now. This thing…if you can do this thing, Jaanvi won’t tell him.” she said, her derisive laughter now settling in some sort of a crooked idea. “What?” I said. I just hoped she didn’t come up with the same rotten condition of sending my stories to The Assam Tribune or take up a few private tuition assignments like Nisim and she were doing. I wrote almost every day, trashed those the next day. Well, I didn’t trash them literally, but, felt that all that I had written was nothing more than zilch.

My dad stated, placing a plate of hamburgers and chicken on the table. Dinner was enjoyable filled with great conversation and too many embarrassing stories. It seemed like whenever I thought it couldn’t get any worse, my mom or dad pulled out another embarrassing story. It wasn’t any better for Sarah, as most of my embarrassing stories involved her. Surprisingly, many of the stories Tyler had never heard before, so Jake and Tyler had some good laughs. The story of Sarah and I running naked home from going skinny dipping in a neighbor’s pool was not even the most embarrassing story of the night but definitely got a good laugh from everyone.

So, I thought I'd let Shin hear the jokes first to find out what is funny and, I know what jokes I can tell Andrew.
