I fell to my knees right where I was, in the hallway in front of my room and pulled out the book. The roots were gone. I blinked, scanning the book on both sides. The roots clutching the pages from every side were gone, making it look like a normal book. Did I pick up the wrong book or something? But looking at the strange languaged title I was relieved it was the right book. But where did the roots go? Or was I imagining them entirely before? Shaking my head, I turned the cover, and pages written in that strange language came to sight. Peculiar symbols like the moon, wolf heads and many others occupied most of the pages.

I wished I could look back at the way this began with fondness; maybe it would make the circumstances bearable, but waking in the bed of a stranger on the wrong side of town didn't lend itself to memories I wanted to cherish. But hell, neither did the day, that preceded the night, that changed my life.

The letter reminds me of a legend my mom always narrated to me before sleeping. Long ago, my ancestors travelled through the depths of time seeking survival from the fangs of dangers an aging world brings them. They sought for shelter that would protect them from blazing heat that pierces through their bodies – the world was too big to search for purpose.
