I’d been forgotten in hell. The other inmates called me “the stray nobody wanted”. Violence was their sport; filthy words were their weapon. “Still lying about being Alpha’s lover? How come he never visits?” Their laughter echoed off the walls as fists rained down on me. “You think you could be a Luna? Wake up! You’re a stray dog. Say it!” Curled up on the floor, bleeding and crying, I whispered, “I’m sorry… I’m a stray dog. I don’t deserve Alpha… I won’t love him again…”

I squeezed my little sleeves over my freezing hands. Sleep came in dirty pieces. I dreamed of running with four paws, claws tapping, breath steaming. When I jerked awake the air reeked of blood but nothing bled out. Gravel had stitched its map onto my cheek. A stray dog sat three feet away, ribs protruding through a rug of fur. It stared like it knew me. “Shoo,” I croaked. It muttered and tailed and stumbled back into the dark. Its paws made prints that were full of water and shone stars I couldn’t see.

It protested with a groan, metal flaking in his hands. “Rot’s our friend tonight,” he said. “Means no one’s used this in a long time.” “Except rats,” Mirella said. “And whatever those are.” She pointed to a set of paw‑prints in the mud just inside—too big for any normal vermin, too small for full‑grown wolves. “Strays,” the Ashridge scout said. “Dogs. Maybe a few skinny rogues who squeezed through years ago to avoid patrols. No fresh scent.”

Via let out an apologetic smile when she saw Collin’s sad look after Kaydee ignored him. “I’m your Uncle Collin! I’m so happy I finally got to meet you!” Jaydee immediately jumped into her uncle’s arm and after a few conversations, they were already inseperable. Kaydee stayed close to her, silently observing the unfamiliar place that they were in. And as they made their way home, with Cassie, Collin, and the children by her side, Via couldn't help but feel a sense of peace settle over her. She was finally home, where she belonged. And this time, she knew that she was exactly where she was meant to be.

Two maids rushed over to take the stray dog away. Adina stood on the balcony, speechless. ‘Did I just kill an innocent dog? ‘It’s so cold and the stray dogs are homeless. They’re only barking because they’re hungry and cold. Why can’t I tolerate it…?’ She heard the children’s frolic voices downstairs again. It sounded like bees buzzing in her ears. She couldn’t help but feel even more irritable… She walked into the washroom and turned on the tap. The sound of water drowned out the children’s sounds. She finally felt at peace.

“There’s nothing to tell. I was running in the woods, and got a bit lost. I picked up the smell of the cubs, then heard them scream. I couldn’t not help, you know? They’re pups.” I nodded unconsciously, because I did know. I got it completely. Even more so as an Alpha. At first, I didn’t believe the simplicity of her story, but it made a lot more sense if she’d been running from an abusive pack. “You’re a stray, aren’t you?” I asked, focusing on her reaction. Her body jerked, and her hands clenched tightly around the edges of her chair. I tried to be reassuring, hoping she’d answer more questions. “It’s nothing to be ashamed of. We’ve taken in strays before.”

Before getting in the car, Vito stared hard at the estate windows, his eyes full of resentment and unwillingness. "What are you looking at?" Lorenzo wrapped his arms around my waist from behind, resting his chin on my shoulder. "Watching them get lost." My voice was calm. "I've already notified every family in the country. No one dares take in these stray dogs." Lorenzo kissed my earlobe, his tone chillingly cold. "The only place they can go is the lowest slum." Three days later, Lydia brought back firsthand intel. They'd settled into a rundown apartment on the edge of the city. A ten-square-meter pigeon cage with moldy walls, half the window glass broken, drafty as a whistle.

HALIL’S POV I clenched my hand around the edge of the Ebony table, as surges of electric current splintered through my chest. Fucking hell! A devilish smirk lined the corner of my lips. “This might just be our chance at easing the grief.” I spat. Kai grunted, and didn’t say a word. My Gamma Chief warrior who patrolled the borders, had given me a notice that a stray was caught breaking rules. Kai cleared his throat. “It’s time for a little show.” Kai’s words carried no streak of remorse. Everyone, even surrounding packs, knew what happened to strays that trespassed into the Blackcrest pack.
