Howl of the unchosen
“I refuse to allow this to be our end.”
Kael nodded quickly, his obsequiousness dulling the tip of my temper, but only a little. My pack had been weakened, yes, but not annihilated. The ones who fell had been too weak to bear the vision I held for our future. The ones who stayed—Kael, Mara, and those others—they were my chosen wolves, the seed of which would be the next generation.
I drove us deeper, deeper into the wild, out of the eyes and reach of the Ashford Pack. The trees closed around us, the canopy overhead swallowing the moonlight. Like the very ground beneath us conspired to consume us, erase us from the face of existence.
