She greeted us warmly, her enthusiasm matching Sally’s. The spa was a short drive from the hotel, and the three of us drove leisurely through the sunlit streets of Cartonica. Susanna I leaned back in the plush reclining chair, sighing as the warm water bubbled around my feet. The spa always smelled like lavender and citrus, and that familiarity made it soothing. A soft towel was draped over my legs, and the nail technician was diligently filing the nails on my left hand while my right held my phone just above the water. She takes us through a frosted glass door into the back of the building, and suddenly the sights and sounds of the veterinary clinic fade away. We’re in a spa. The air is fragrant with eucalyptus and lavender, and there’s a trickling fountain filling the space with the calming sounds of running water. Black stone slabs jut out from the walls, each with their own fire roaring beneath, heating them to the perfect temperature. A woman emerges from behind a curtain. She’s wearing a black apron with a silver wolf embroidered on it. Her hair is grey, pulled back in a tight braid, and her blue eyes are friendly. “Juliana! Amanda! Welcome! You’ve brought someone new, I see.”

This was their honeymoon, and the thought of being pampered at a luxurious spa made her heart flutter. Ethan ended the call and set the phone down. “It’s all arranged. Take us to Serene bliss spa.” She smiled faintly, turning back to the window, imagining the warm oils, the soothing music, and the rare, private moments they would share in the spa. After a while the car stopped in front of a huge building boldly written ‘Serene Bliss Spa’. Maya’s eyes widened in awe. They got out, then the driver assisted Ethan to his wheelchair, and they got inside the building.
