Lauren hesitated, eyeing the mask in my hand, “is it okay to wear it now? Won’t it hurt your skin?”
I didn’t respond.
Instead, my eyes drifted to the mirror across the room, standing at the far edge near the wall.
I turned my head slowly… and saw myself.
There, just below my right eye, a large square of white plaster covered the worst of the wound.
The edges were faintly pink.
I could still feel the sting of where the scissors had torn the skin.
My lips were split, one corner swollen.
Faint bruises formed under the surface, slowly darkening.
