The override code. My neck muscles seize. I can't look away. I try to close my eyes, but the neural patches behind my ears send a sharp, stinging impulse that forces my eyelids to flutter open. "Look," Evelyn commands. The playback begins. 4x speed. Chapter 1: Me in my bedroom, fingers frantic, discovering the app. The look of shock on my face. Chapter 2: The kitchen counter. Coffee spilling. My head thrown back. Chapter 3: The shower. The steam. The phantom hands.

Chapter 1: The Announcement The trick to going invisible in a room full of rich people was simple. You keep your shoulders low and move at an even pace, don't rush. My eyes were fixed on the tray, never on their faces, I offered a small smile if someone glanced over, just enough to seem safe, then faded back into the background before they thought twice. I had practiced this for three years, and I was very used to it. But invisibility was never the real goal. It was just the way I got there.

You're a bird soaring high… I heard things crashing and falling. More footsteps and this time they grew louder. And then they were here.
