She stood near the kitchens with a cloth in her hands, face unreadable. She didn’t flinch, didn’t even blink. But something in her jaw tightened. Alpha Boris’s eyes stayed a second too long, then moved on.

Jared remained near the wall with the other high-ranking guards, arms crossed and eyes moving constantly. Morgan stood first. The room quieted. “Thank you for coming.” Calder snorted softly. “Don’t make it sound polite, Morgan. Half this room came because refusing would look guilty.” A few wolves shifted. Morgan inclined his head. “Fair.” Lotty immediately liked Calder a little. Morgan continued. “This summit was called because recent events have revealed interference among allied packs. Some of that interference was tied to agreements made during the war between Dark Mountain and Edgewater Falls.”

Lori nodded. Myra had also told her that the location of the summit wasn't always released until the day of the summit, which even after then you would need a special password to get into. Sometimes you would need to get in with your wolf form but Myra said that was a long time ago when Summits were held in the woods. Now it was a different time. A shinier time. She had remarked.
