I rolled my eyes, "Your book is fine, Case." "No, it's not. Look at this crease! You did that!" She wailed out, pointing to one of the corners of her book cover. I squinted, trying to see what she was referring to but still couldn't see any. I finally gave up after a few seconds. "You should be grateful I haven't burned your book collection for taking up so much space in this house." I muttered under my breath as I dusted myself off. I swear I've never seen someone's head turn so fast in my life. It was like those horror movie scenes where the possessed person turns their head in an unnatural speed to a super creepy angle that causes their hair behind your neck to rise.

I heard the echoes for quite a long time. “Corey. Just like that book about the girl who made the earth swallow everything.” She snorted. “You’re high as a horse, aren’t you? That’s Carey, not Corey.” I thought about it and realized she was right. I was high as fuck and I had just mistaken the name of one of Stephen King’s most iconic novels. We talked for a while mostly about things I haven’t spoken about before to a single soul. I felt better talking to her. She listened and shared some of her experiences with me which were mostly gruesome but given our current mood, it was all humorous.

'What if it had escaped while you were just about to make your way over? But if she wasn't mysterious, I don't think the secret and everything else would be worth it. I shook my head, hoping the very action would rid me of the excessive thoughts in my head. Strangely it did, and the only thing I had in mind was to actually find out what F.S had to do in all of this. I took a deep breath before opening the first page of the book In my grip. "It was a hot sunny afternoon. " I read out loud, letting the rest of the words flow out freely and basking myself in the scenery my mind was creating.

I said with a much lackluster in me that I redefined the meaning of sarcasm. Suddenly and totally unexpected on my part she hit the brakes. If not for my body being secured by the seat belt, I would have been thrown forward, head slam into the dashboard, cracked skull, cut on my forehead, blood dripping down to my nose, dizziness and I'm petty sure I would have had a concussion as well by now.

But as I stepped outside, my mind kept wandering back to the book she was talking about. The book that will make me understand what I was.

Please tell me it’s some stupid frat nickname they got in college and it’s just an inside joke. He doesn’t reply, just turns his head and looks back towards the house, slowly sliding his hands in his pockets. I like taking my time, that way, I can get used to the idea of living with Xander. Sitting behind the counter in the bookstore, I listen to Vincent talking to his cars while I place an order for new books. One of those books is The Art of War by Sun Tsu. I want to read it and see why Alexei loves it so much. My thoughts turn to the BBQ, and I must admit, I enjoyed it a lot. And Rosemarie was right. Everyone seemed pretty normal. I don’t know what I expected. Maybe guns and men smoking cigars while plotting the end of the world?

The room was filled with shelves of books. I hadn’t ever liked to read, but it was better than sitting around doing nothing. I went to the first shelf and frowned at the title. “Financial Analytics… Psychology: A History…” I kept walking. I didn’t know what any of these books were supposed to be about, but I kept looking for something that seem more interesting and something I could understand. I heard people walking down the hall past my room. “She can clean up after herself,” someone said. “What I would give to have a night alone with the alpha… It’s such a waste on that half breed.”
