My voice was tentative, a soft quiver betraying my sudden unease. There was a pause on the other end. Then I heard a strange voice. “I’m calling from the hospital.” My stomach dropped. “The hospital? What—what happened to Zara?” “She tried to commit suicide.” The voice sounded professional. “She is stable now. We tried contacting anyone she knew and we were able to reach you…” I froze, heart hammering against my ribs. My mind raced, each thought worse than the last. “Alright, thank you. Tell me about the hospital.”

Watched it burn. "Hello, Thorne," she said, and her voice was wrong. Layered. Like multiple people speaking at once. "Miss me?"

“Then it’s not done with you.” Before she could answer, the ground beneath them trembled. A wave of distortion rolled through the street, glass rippling like water, air bending inward. The light changed color, bleeding from amber to deep violet. A voice echoed from nowhere and everywhere at once. “You shouldn’t have touched the heart.” All three froze. The voice was neither male nor female, neither human nor divine, it was layered, speaking in echoes of countless others, overlapping like chords in dissonance. “You unmade what was meant to be forgotten. The Rift remembers because you taught it how.”

Elena’s fingers tightened around the stone railing until her knuckles bleached white. The night air, once a welcome relief, now felt thick and suffocating. She didn’t need to turn around to know who stood behind her. That voice—low, velvet-wrapped steel—had haunted her for years. Cassian Hale.

It was like an alcoholic who didn't know when to stop and caused havoc when they exceeded their limit. "Stand still so I can kill you," Tania growled but her voice didn't sound like her own. It was distorted, sounding like a gruff echo instead of the usual silky tone it had. "I can't do that," I dropped down, just barely missing a flaming hot white ball of magic that soared over my head. Lifting my hand, I patted my mop of curls to make sure none of the tendrils had been singed, "this is not you," I cooed when I was satisfied I was unharmed. Standing to full height once more, I whispered, "I know the real you and she wouldn't hurt me. Even if she desperately wanted to, she couldn't."

Perhaps I should have realized when Rob first appeared and Dorothy's scent seemed to hang on him like an accusation that she had been tainted. "Haven't you caused enough of a scene already?" she snapped. "Need I remind you who it was that chased after whom like a pathetic, lovesick puppy?" Her voice dripped with overconfident scorn as she attempted to drag my thoughts back to the present. When she saw that I remained coldly silent, her eyes flickered with uncertainty, and she opened her mouth to say something more, only to be interrupted by Rob.

I beg while I dangle In the sky with my legs flagging from right to left. His grip this time around is more stinger and firmer than the first time. “How dare you!!?” He growls. His voice is so loud and ferocious. It sounds so loud and scary like the voices of more than one person. It’s as though just one person is articulating more than a voice. The whole place echoes from the loudness of his voice.

Jasper asked in a hoarse voice. "How did this happen? How could my voice be like this?" Jasper covered his neck, trying to exert himself to make a louder sound, but he couldn't. "Why does my voice sound like this?" Jasper asked as he went to grab Renea. However, Renea got up and took a step back, not letting him touch her. His voice is as hoarse as if a lump of cotton had been stuffed in his throat, blocking his voice. He could only make a weak sound.
