It wasn’t like a movie whose plotline wraps up in two hours or fewer. It still hurt, though, thinking he might never wake up. A flickering light appeared from the cave entrance crack. Of course, it did. Someone carried it. Only the cave explorers had light. Someone was alive. Someone made it out. Two wolves appeared, causing people to pause. Cheers rose as people rushed to intercept those exiting the cave. Ebony didn’t move, but she counted the number of bodies who left the cave, and, to her relief, they totalled the number that went into the cave.

I grin at him, ducking inside. Dad looks up at us, saying his hellos as he finishes typing something on the computer and then standing, peering at Cole. “Updates?” “Yes,” Cole says, looking between us. “But fortunately or unfortunately, not more work. At least not right now. Injured parties from the caves are being airlifted directly to hospitals.” Dad raises his eyebrows, surprised. “Wait, why?” I ask, frowning at Cole. “What happened?” He sighs, shaking his head. “We lost Slaken.”

Alexander ventured near the Cura Cave, scouring the surroundings until he stumbled upon a hidden entrance shrouded by dense vines. It was hardly visible, no doubt. Entering the cavern, darkness enveloped him, rendering visibility nearly impossible. Alexander's form darted into the cavern, feeling compelled to explore. Igniting the power of fire within him, his body became engulfed in flames, illuminating the cave's interior. The path seemed straightforward, stretching endlessly into the depths. "It appears ordinary," Alexander mused, pressing forward cautiously. Yet, the cave's spaciousness hinted at its potential to harbor hundreds of hidden individuals undetected.

He reasoned "I don't know how I can still breathe and talk. I saw...I saw the cave.... It sits deep in the Mountain, away from all the trails, its hidden behind a cove of twisted trees... The entire rock wall is black... I - I never should of gone in there, inside, theres a fire... bright purple like a deep bruise.. it's...alive.. The things gather there, that's where they go. There's so many of them.. The cave, its magic." She listened, hanging on every word the man said to her.. Okay, clearly he's crazy, a magic cave... he thinks he's dead, he's dehydrated and delusional.. she thought to herself, thankful to have an explanation for his erratic behaviour. He was shaking, his eyes continued

“I don’t like to go down there, it’s very scary down there.” “Can someone take us down there? We want to rescue everyone today.” “I can,” stammered the Scottish lad. “I am not afraid of the caves.” The little girl rolled her eyes, “I saw a ghost down there once, I really did,” she said to anyone who would listen. They followed the boy down, twists and sharp turns that Dakari didn’t remember at all. They came to a large cavern filled with computers, all blank now and unmanned. “This must have been what Katalea saw in her dream.” Dakari thought. He murmured some words, and they were gone. The little boy’s eyes widened and he turned to look at Dakari.

I felt it was a bit of an inappropriate time to hold the inaugural meeting of their newly formed support group, but Mandy was obviously having trouble coming to terms with the whole situation. She lifted up her head. “Was the story about the underground stream true? At all?” “Well, yes and no,” said Raviva. “It would have led you into another cave, but there are no mines. You would have found yourselves in our labyrinth. A wonderful place full of traps and secrets.” His eyes lit up as he spoke about the labyrinth, and I mean they glowed red like lava. “Had you managed to navigate it, you could have won your freedom and, of course, our admiration.”

“Just… wandering.” Cavin exhaled smoke, the ember of his cigarette glowing like a predator’s eye. “Funny. People don’t wander into Coby territory. They don’t leave breathing if they do.” Derina tilted her chin, masking nerves with defiance. “Maybe your reputation is just a bedtime story my father tells to keep me in line.” Cavin stepped closer, and the night seemed to fold around him. “Bedtime story?” His voice was low, dangerous. “Sweetheart, I’m the monster your father prays you’ll never meet.”
